Craiger Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Hey guys how's it going? Sorry for not being around or posting much lately. Just been so busy!!! I didn't get out too much this spring. Only 4 partial days, but the days that I did get out were very productive. With all the high water we had in most of the great lakes tributaries, I stuck to fishing my heavy skagit setups to get down and hold the depth i wanted at a fast swing speed. My line setups were either an intermediate skagit head and 10ft T14, or the floating head and 10ft T14. I went back to my aggressive swing speed again this spring and worked out really well for me. All spring i basically used the same fly in just a few different colour combos and will post a pic of what they look like. Here's a few pics of some of the fish I got as well. First fish of 2014 was this beauty brown and was a nice surprise for sure. Now here's a bunch of photos from the few days i was able to make it out....wish I could have made it out more because they were on fire this year!!! And here's the 5 flies that did all the damage this year How did everyone else do this spring? Let's see some pics Cheers Craig
Guest Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Awesome post Craig. Love the colours. Thanks for sharing.
Craiger Posted June 15, 2014 Author Report Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks Cliff...wish I could have made it out to the big river to swing a few up but never had the time.
DaveC Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Very nice Craig, love the one with your dog eye balling your fish. Did very well this spring, unfortunately it was not on the swing... That is going to change though, since I picked up a fishcat drift boat. I should be able to get away from the crowds more. Im going to keep it up, and swing for Bass on the Grand until I get it figured out more. Both myself, and my wife are doing well casting....just have not dedicated myself enough to it. Keep grabbing the float rod...mind you the streams Im floating you cant swing anyway. Going to keep trying when I can....nice flies btw, I like that first one.
Craiger Posted June 16, 2014 Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 Hey Dave that's good to hear that you aren't giving up on it. Keep at it and it will come. We should get out this fall or even this summer to work out the kinks. It's probably something small like swing speed and fly control. Let me know buddy. Craig
DaveC Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Anytime Craig. I have a 2 man pontoon and can do the Paris to Brant trip. Be nice to see if im doing things right or not. All my buddies are floaters...so cant learn much from them. If your going out at all or feel like a drift trip let me know we can work something out.Im notgiving up on it, and i still float as well...but id appreciate knowing if im doing things right.
Craiger Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 I'd be down for that anytime buddy...we will get you dialed in and nailing steel this fall swingin for sure!!! Cheers
Jer Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Good stuff lots of fish you really have them dialed in! Thanks for the post.
Craiger Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 Thanks Jer and Tom...they were all dropbacks for me this spring and were all healed up and ready to rock!
river guide Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Looks like you had some fun Craiger! I missed the whole month of May and that really didn't sit well with me... only been out once this month too. Will be sure to get out lots this fall though. Looking at a Pro 4X right now.
Craiger Posted June 28, 2014 Author Report Posted June 28, 2014 Thanks river guide we did have a fun spring for sure. Too bad you weren't able to get out. This fall should be amazing as well...:-). I heard the Pro 4x is a good rod for the money. I haven't tried one myself but have heard good things. Craig
