yakfish
Got out on the Welland River last night for some catfishing. Was on the water by 7:30pm and fished untill 1:30am. Water temps ranged from 64-68 degrees. Paddled around untill I located some underwater structure (looked like a pile of logs and debris) in about 6 feet of water, set out my anchor and started fishing. I use a simple egg sinker slip rig with a circle hook. Shrimp was the bait of choice last night. I think cut bait would be better but I haven't found any suckers yet. The action was fairly steady, rarely having to wait more than 20 minutes between bites. Most bites were light nibbles with only a couple fish really pickup up the bait and running with it. Caught about 25 channels total with a wide range of size from the smallest 6 incher up to my best of the year, a fat 26 inch cow. Lots of missed fish and I lost a good one at the side of the kayak. As I was trying to net him the hook popped out. Fun night to be out for sure!
