Guest Gill Finigan
Here's some info on a great contest to help keep our streams clean. I should have the bags in tomorrow and you can also get them at Denis's or Pete's. Here are the details regarding the streamside clean-up for this Trout Opener. We are also very excited to announce that there will be a photo contest with fabulous prizes including the Grand prize of a 13foot Frontier float rod(Generously donated by JC Custom Tackle) mated with a Black Islander float reel!!(Generously donated by Islander Precision Reels) •Our group the(FFCG)has purchased 5,000 22” x 24” garbage bags to use for the clean-up, this is what they look like: •We will be using approximately 15 to 20 fishing/tackle stores across Southern Ontario as distribution points for the bags. These stores will also serve to promote the event to their customers. (see below for a list of participating stores) •The start date of the Clean up will coincide with the opening of Trout fishing season on Saturday April 28/07 and run for one week ending on Friday May 4. This is how the clean-up will work: 1. Anglers will pick up their garbage bags at their local participating tackle store and carry it with them streamside as they fish wherever that may be. 2.When the bite slows, anglers will spend 10 to 15 minutes filling the garbage with streamside litter. 3. Anglers will dispose of the garbage bag in a proper recepitcle or with their household waste. Don’t forget to snap a streamside pic that includes the bag(s) for our photo contest!! Prizes including the Grand prize of a 13ft Frontier float rod with an Islander float reel will be awarded to those photo’s that capture the essence of the clean-up best. So use your imagination and be creative, photo's will be submitted under a special thread and the deadline will be Sunday May 6/07 @ midnight. Here is a list of participating tackle store where you can pick-up you specially designated garbage bags, the list is still growing so check for updates. Bags will be made available at these locations starting April 21. Dan Andrews
Excellent Reg. Although it's needed make sure you wait for opener to clean up the trout streams. Pulling items out of the water during the spawn is a bad idea and the traffic is just as bad. Glad to see this great idea is beginning on opener.
