Some crazy guy was on Martidale at the grand stands today close to the sculpture. Insane! There was little ice and it was open all around him. The shore was rotted and the pond didn't look any better. My oppinion is you gotta be pretty desparate for fish to go on that. If your the guy that was out there today, I sure hope you were at least wearing a float suit.

It just goes to show how desperate some people are getting to get out fishing. I've been driving alot lately and seen some if'y ice conditions. I'm pretty close to going crazy. Hope everyone keeps it safe out there.

p.s. whats in martindale pond? i never fished it yet

Glow-in-the-dark perch, glow-in-the-dark crappie, glow-in-the-dark pike. A section of the old Welland Canal was used for centuries by Domtar/Abittibi papermil in Thorold. The canal empties into the 12 Mile Creek just South of the Burgoyne bridge in St. Catharines. It used to be pink or rust coloured, with about 1' of foam on top. I can remember as a kid driving over the Burgoyne bridge and cheking to see what colour the bay was.

It's basically the part of the system just above the damm at Port Dalhousie to the QEW. There's a good portion of it that runs to Martindale Rd which I think most people accosiate with the name. Great place for a stroll in the summer time with a camera and the kids.

MARTINDALE POND: You guy's are right glow this & glow that BUT most of the contaminates are silted over so if you DON'T disturbe the bottom the fishing can be great just DON'T keep anything. As far as what's in there it ranges from huge carp, pike ,muskie , bass L/M,S/M , bows, salmon, catfish , browns, brookies, purch, crappie, blugill, sunfish, I could go on but I think it depends on what you are targetting on where you cast a line. I do know that this is a great location to fish with a kid because you never know what you will pull out. Good fishing . Rob Mcintosh PS don't forget the only boats aloud in this water are ones with NO motor.

You've got me thinking but I'm not quite clear on what you meant by that. :dunno: I haven't heard of any bodies being pulled from there and I've only seen a couple of safes floating up there. :dunno::dunno:

Boy, has that lake changed over the years ! I fished it in the 60's & we always called it Lake Gibson . Used to fish from the "rafts" that was used to stop debris from entering the canal feeders to the generators below at Decew . We would catch many silver bass ,black bass (as we called the smallies) , carp ,even leather carp, pike, channel catfish, and other panfish. Now that the water is clearer, some of these fish are gone ,or very scarce . The pike & bass seem to be thriving ok. There was one place where the currant picked up speed just before entering the canal and we would get a few small trout , I beleive they stocked Beaverdams lake area with them at that time. It would be nice if you could put a canoe in there, but I beleive thats off limits!
