I just checked my account, and nothing is there about my controlled hunt application!!
i’m worried now that they lost it - I applied for it in mid-July!

I have one of these stickers in my front door, which eliminates most door-to- nuisance . If they ignore the sticker and ring the bell anyway, I just point to the sticker and ask them if they are illiterate……
as to the phone calls…if we dont recognize the number we dont answer! We have call answer, so they can leave a message if they want, but we erase the garbage callers.
Got the sticker through Amazon, if anyone interested in one.

Smelly baits for the cats Gene !
Bill, I have ZERO interest in fishing for cats….I want pickerel!
As kids fishing the flats on the Grand at my uncle’s farm we would catch them and throw them back, cause we didnt want to eat them, and were raised by parents who said we should eat what we catch….we thought cats were yuccky!

We have had steady rain here all morning.
Had hoped to hit the Grand R this week to try for pics, but will be muddy now for a few days after the 3 rains this week.

Took the tin boat up to Binbrook today for the first time to take my grandson fishing at the Binbrook Conservation Area.
I got skunked, but he got 3 small pickerel and a crappie, all on Storm Shad lure with a bass finish.

My 14 yr old grandson in Binbrook wants me to bring my tin boat and take him fishing in the Binbrook Conservation Area.
However, I've never been to it, and know nothing about where in there to fish.
I've heard it contains largemouth and crappie, and it catch and release only because of the airport fire fighting chemicals in the water.
I would appreciate it if anyone who has fished there before could pm me with some suggestions of what parts of the water body to try in order to give him a successful outing.
I have included a map of the water body if that helps.
Thanks.

Bill, Can anyone rent a trailer at that camp for a week?
Looks like a nice place to go if this smoke ever cleared up.

My son and I got out to Pt. Abino today for the first time, and we caught 3 bass in 3 hours in 10-12 feet of water at our usual honey hole weed bed area. The biggest was a lovely fat 19” that I guestimated at about 4 Lbs. (My Rapala scale battery was dead). Didnt mark that many fish on the fishfinder either. Only saw 2 kayaks and 1 boat bass fishing this morning, which surprised us considering it was the first decent day since the opener.

And I cant buy any replacement handguns if any of my training guns break down with student use in my restricted courses, yet the movie industry can still buy them to make movies!

You need to take the course and exam to get a Possession and Acquisition License to own a gun and buy ammunition.
I do my courses at the Dunnville Hunters and Anglers Club if you want to take it there - our club manager looks after all course bookings.
Just google the club name to contact him if your interested.

June30-july3 I’ll be looking for some smallies. How is Erie for fishing them at that time?
They will be moving into deeper water once the water warms up, but at the dates you posted they should still be shallower post spawn.
We fish the bay at Pt. Abino, and usually pick up a lot of bass trolling Shad Raps in the 12-15 foot depths for at least the first 2 weeks after opening day. A lot of people will fish in shallower in the bay those weeks, but we always have more luck at the depth listed above. Weed beds seem to be the key for us at those depths, as the bay is all sandy bottom.

A good arsenal of bass gear.
However, my all time favourite smallmouth lure on Lake Erie is a Rapala Shad Rap in Perch finish - maybe you should pick up one of those as well.

Well I finally got my first turkey this morning.
For 6 days I had been trying to bag a gobbler that was roosting in the south end of the main bush on the family farm,
but could never get him in range.
On Tuesday my cousin came down and we hunted together, and with us team calling he got that gobbler.
So this morning, I set up along the treeline above the river flats on the edge of a beanfield next to the Grand River.
Had 4 gobblers calling after daybreak, but none came out into the field - just 2 hens.
After they wandered off, 4 more birds came over a hill in the beanfield about 200 yards to the north, and 3 started fanning - 3 more gobblers! None of these were the birds calling around me!
I made a couple of pairs of calls on my box call, and the biggest bird slowly walked all the way to me, with the other 2 following him - waited till he was about 35 yards out, and bang!😊
20 Lbs, 8 Oz.
10 1/4 inch beard
biggest spur 1 1/4 inch
So many more gobblers in that area of the farm that I’m going to get a second tag.

Way to go Markster - rainy days do pay off!!
Glad you were able to bag a good one.

Bill, you gotta get the Ultra Shield from Peavy Mart!
I’ve been out in the bush turkey hunting 4 times this week (no luck yet), and not a single tick.
-
Congratulations on your first bird!
Now your hooked!!
Wish I had the same luck…I blew a shot at a gobbler that was coming right at my hen and jake decoys…I had a heavy hunting coat over my vest and sweater because they were calling for cold temps, and had trouble lining up the shot with all that padding.
I think I ended up shooting over his head. 😖

Was on the OFAH forum site, and two other guys reported that they had the same problem as I did - no report at all on their application!
i’m wondering if it is a website problem at the MNRF.
