hopefully going to Detroit river tomorrow. My buddies boat already have 30 this morningYaa, fishing has been crazy on the Detroit River this year, probably more fish then ever. Guys are limiting out from shore, my buddies have been fishing every day, catching 40 plus fish per person lol.

I planned on trying for browns today using a spinner worm combo but Ma Nature was in a mood again .....
And a 10' x 3' piece of rolled roofing just came crashing to the ground from my barn shed this morning , broke away from the nails ! Crazy !! So I filled the seam with black roofing cement and will get some shingles later this spring .
East wind today Steelshady , not nice on the west side . Are the parking machines up there now ?
I park by old pier 61 Restaurant, next week will start fishing the river when days are longer, lots of fish are moving up and going back to the lake by April, Lake Erie water is warmer by 5 degrees F, warmest recorded temp in 100 years for March. With the last two warm winters I doubt that there will be any fish in the pool by May just like last year. I was catching spawning fish in the river early February.

Glad I fish from a boat. Browns were on 🔥 this weekend.
Are you drifting in the harbor or lake?

Was a great weekend for a hike but not fishing. Hundreds of tourists at the Glen and Whirlpool from TO yesterday, I could not find a parking spot lol. Hiked all the way to the Hydro Dams and had that stretch from Pebbly Beach down to myself with the water being low, what a great hike that was.
Port was packed with anglers, 30-40 guys fishing the dam side, current is back to normal and all the zombie salmon finally showed up.
What a $iht show at Port, guys fishing next to each other against Covid protocols and no masks😆

Brown eggs and a glow in the dark bead 12" above, only caught them at Port at Night. They screw the current this year, seems much less salmon in the harbor this year, last year they were stacked, and browns followed later until the new year.

They shut the water on the 12! Super low and great for bass and pike fishing now! Since water is off, there is no flow in the harbor pushing salmon back deeper in the lake, need another strong North wind.

Most likely due to the warm winter/spring the fish probably spawned earlier than usual. I was catching out of season bass after bass up to 5 lbs in late April above the Peace bridge while float fishing for Trout, we were catching up to 20 fish in a few hours and had to change locations since it became a nuisance.

Fishing was slow yesterday at Port, I will try today again fishing the west side of the dam bouncing a jig. Did see a guy land a small sturgeon and one jumped! Lucky for him that I was there to inform him it's a sturgeon and that the season is closed all year, fish was released otherwise there would be MNR on site lol.

Two good friends fished the "Geen" on Monday and Tuesday at the dam, was loaded with drop backs, not one fresh fish.

Nope, but the run has started:

Below the dams water is always different due to run off, fishing has been really tough. Use this web cam for live water details:

Here are some hiking/fishing pics from this week, hoping to bonk more fish this weekend and donate them to family and friends since folks are struggling with these crazy fish prices at the store.

Brutal weather forecast for the next two weeks, trying to start fishing for steel in the Niagara but water conditions have been an issue with the heavy west winds. The fish start running upstream from Queenston when water warms up, usually around end of March.

NOT looking good for "icing" smelts this year unless we take the canoe/yaks to our smelt holes ....
The pike I caught at P.Dal. had 2 smelts in it's gut , so there may be some in the harbour feeding the trout also ?
Or , did the pike get them from the lake recently ? They look fresh (could have saved them for dinner) ...
I didn't pack the ice rods away, yet .....they are on "stand by" ....March can be a sob sometimes as we wait to get some action with the long rods.
Ma nature is having another fit today, very unpredictable little woman !!
I fished Port yesterday hard in the big winds, was using plastics and not even a sniff. I will try today again with roe in the afternoon, river still mud.

Yea I’ve been thinking of going down to Ft Erie and trying the river, but I expect its murky as well with the wind an rain. I wish there was some way of checking the river conditions without wasting the 45 minute drive to get rhere.
I use this one for water conditions:

Stopped by today at Port D and fished that spot Smerch around noon for about 30 min, was testing a 13-float foot rod for bottom bouncing that was tied by Cliff, the stick performed well and will use it at Port for bottom. Was cold as ice but guys were out fishing, water not that bad, should be a good day next few days.

I spent the afternoon on the lower, got into a huge school of out of season lakers, non-stop action until my arms gave inn, was fishing for bows with no luck.

You will be able to catch fish all May in the river, drop backs that are hungry and late spawners.
