  1. Have you ever caught a Shad? I know it's weird but I'd like to catch one to see one up close. I'm also in a year long multi-species fun tourney with some pals.
  2. I guess that fish is toast. shame. Check your knots and gear
  3. Thanks Darryl Do those small tags or tile style have the range that you'd need? Seem to be bluetooth connected. I need to look at it more
  4. The recent search and rescue on Erie as well considering boat thefts in the area has me thinking about a gps tracker for my boat. Can anyone recommend a good gps tracker that they've used? Ideally I'm looking for something subscription free.... but maybe that's not possible for a decent and reliable unit? Any insight is appreciated.
  5. One added bonus to that approach is you can have the jet diver tapping bottom on the dropper 12"-24" (or whatever you want) and then the lure off bottom and out of the zebra muscles, etc.
  6. try the jet diver on a sliding dropper line, like a 3-way rig, as opposed to rigging it up in line with your mainline and lure. That way there is no drag pulling on the back of the jet that could cause it to flip or roll. Your lure is attached to the mainline with leader and barrel swivel whatever length you want, the sliding dropper line is attached above the barrel swivel on the mainline, allowing the diver to work
  7. Tyler that's interesting. If fished it a bunch throughout the summer and it was super disappointing. Still learning the spot myself.
  8. I used corn from the freezer. yeah gobies don't seem to be around till things really warm up. Once they're around I go to maize. Great info here. I may need to give it a go.
  9. What's the earliest ice out carp you've caught? The pic attached was May 13th last year and I think the water temp was around 50F, corn on a hair. Mid May is still a long way off it feels like ,ha. What's the earliest you've made it happen? Any tips to get it done?
  10. Rain gets me thinking spring channel cats.... can't get distracted..... want a few more through the ice yet.
  11. My son and I tried Ramey's last evening from about 5:30-7:00 and were completely skunked. Some loose schools of baitfish came through but didn't stick around too much. On my camera I think I saw only shiners. Lots of twix and mountain dew consumed..... so still successful as far as my son is concerned.
  12. Thanks fellas, just wondering if anyone has any insight or theories into how the numbers could go from pretty good one year to pretty terrible the next.

    smelt

I'm hearing that the smelt ice fishing is lousy so far this year. Not many smelt and they're all dinks. Are the the good numbers of smelt a cyclical thing? Any other factors that can be patterned?
  14. FYI Binbrook Cons now open for ice fishing. Binbrook | Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (npca.ca)
  15. think we need a picture of this
  16. Great work, beautiful fish
  17. that's interesting thanks. More cold temps coming this weekend
  18. That's perfect, hadn't considered that. A few factors going on then. Thanks,
  19. Hey fellas, I drove out from Binbrook this evening with a spud bar, hand auger and measuring tape to check the status on the rec canal near the dog park and rowing center. I understand that it's only been real good ice making weather for a little while but more locally we're really near 4". I suspect with the overnight temps this week that we'll be there shortly around here. So I was pretty surprised to see that the rec canal had large sections of open water. In front of the rowing center it was wide open..... geese and all. I didn't walk out or spud bar at in the areas where there was nice black ice because the shoreline was thin and sketchy. So I'm asking.... is there stuff to know about the rec canal like water currents, warm inflows or the 30' depths that just take longer to chill? Why would there be open water like that when every other inland lake is locked up? Any insights are appreciated. I enjoyed it last winter for the first time with my kids. That was near the end of Jan and into Feb with a confident 4-1/2" or so. Thanks
  20. Hey that's pretty cool. Amazing they can bounce back like that. I think they'd only take issue if you're transporting them back in water and it looks like you're trying to keep them alive. Good work nice system
