  2.

The St Catharines Game and Fish Association is excited to announce that Russell Gahagan will be coming to Port Dalhousie on Sunday March 24 to put a very comprehensive Salmon trolling school. It will take place at the Dalhousie Yacht Club

Over the years Russell has established himself as a very successful tournament angler across the Great Lakes as part of the Anglers Avenue team. Recently he has created "Russell’s Fishing Tech" YouTube channel & presents many Salmon Schools across the Great Lakes region each year.
He is also the founder of Salmon Candy Tackle company.

Registration is now open and can be done online here. https://www.russellsfishingtech.net/product/2024-dalhousie-ca-great-lakes-advanced-salmon-and-trout-school/?fbclid=IwAR102uph1d2yBngfwXEfHQdwNIx9d24J0aXDKTXPdY9qUFex4ZuAfOUU2ck

Cost includes the class, a  wonderful lunch, a sample tackle package and the chance to win additional prizes.

  3. Yes the club also could use extra help filling shifts at the ramp. Weighing fish for the derbies, directing traffic and light clean up.

Great opportunity for recently retired folks, enjoyable work, fresh air & social/friendship within the fishing community.

If anyone is interested you can email scgameandfish@gmail.com

  4. What style of fishing and or species do you target most?

If you primarily troll then side/down Imaging will not benefit you much.

Side imaging is great for scanning areas looking for structure & transition areas.

Live sonar is very good and depending on the transducer you buy it can be used for casting/jigging or trolling. It's nearly a $4000+ investment though.

Whatever you decide,  get at least a 7 inch screen.

  5. In a nutshell

Chirp is traditional 2D sonar but sends multiple frequencies instead of just one

Down Imaging gives target separation dtraight down to clean things up and differentiate structure

Side Imaging does the same but off to the side

Mega Live / Active Target/ live scope/ panoptix is live sonar. Allows you to scan in different directions and you can cast/jig and see your bait in real time allow with fish

All these features have a time & place

Chirp 2d has become standard on nearly all units now. Si / Di pretty common too

Live Imaging is pretty cool but pretty pricey
