  1. Greetings everyone!

The calendar says its now spring! With that, we have few quick items to remind you all of briefly.

Spring Clean up will take place Sat March 25, weather looks ok as of now.
Meet at the clubhouse/ramp for 8am, should only take a couple hours.
Please bring work gloves & perhaps a rake or shovel.
Coffee and donuts will be on hand as well!

Everyone is invited to our Spring General Meeting which will take place on Monday March 27, 7pm at the Grantham Optimist Centre at 188 Linwell Rd in St Catharines.
It will be a great time to meet up & connect with everyone. Memberships, Spring Salmon Derby tickets and launch ramp passes will be for sale. We will share news & updates within the club, there will be a cash bar, 50/50 draw & additional prizes.
As well, if you are new to the club, curious about joining and maybe interested in volunteering with us, we look forward to meeting you & chatting more.
We are also happy to have Jeff from FAT BOYZ Fishing as our guest speaker. There is very good carp fishing opportunities all around us, that is often overlooked, for anglers to take advantage of. Jeff will share on some spots to look for and the basic equipment & techniques. We're excited to have some content for everyone to enjoy.

The pay machine is expected to be up & running by the end of the month. Please remember it only accepts Visa & Mastercard. Seasonal launch ramp passes are available to purchase at Peter's Tackle & Grimsby Tackle. Gentle reminder that as the ramp is busy at peak times, please be patient and follow directions as per the signage to keep traffic flowing.

We are still looking for volunteers to serve on our launch ramp staff. Flexible 2, 3, & 4 hour, weekly or bi-weekly shifts available to be filled week days, afternoons & weekends. Let us know if you or someone else would be interested.

Spring Salmon Derby begins Sat April 1, good luck everyone!

More details on other club events & activities coming soon.

  2. k time to recap from the Niagara Fishing Tackle Swap that was held this past weekend.
Lots of thank you's coming at ya!
A big thanks to all of our vendors who rented tables.
To our guest speakers who gave great presentations in the seminar room.
    To everyone who attended.
To all our volunteers who planned, organized, set up and clean up afterwards.
To Eden High School, the DSBN & custodians for hosting us.
    Thank you very much everyone!
Congratulations to Donnie Dickson for winning the Ice Fishing package draw. Thank you to Grimsby Tackle for helping us arrange the prizes.
Congratulations to Jim Poling who won the Salmon Charter with Steve Jablonski ( Krazy Kings) & to Darren Baiton who won the Salmon Charter with Shane Thombs ( FINtastic Sportfishing)
We had over 400 paid adult entries at the door.
As some may know, in late Dec, we were saddened to hear of the passing of one of our very dedicated members, Mary Schultz. In Mary's memory, the $2220 raised from admission sales at the Swap has been donated to Start Me Up Niagara
As well throughout the day, additional money was raised for our Kids Day Program through sales of Coffee & Pizza.
Our Youth Tackle Share Program that's run in partnership with many local library branches was also able to raise additional funds through sales of donated Tackle & equipment.
Thank you everyone for your continued support of the St Catharines Game and Fish Association. While we are an outdoors/conservation focused organization, we realize the importance of community and do our best to help others when we can

  3. CALLING ALL ANGLERS!

The St Catharines Game and Fish Association derby committee works hard every winter to bring a schedule of great events for our members and community to fish.

To ensure that our members help shape these events, we are asking for you to take less than 5 minutes to complete our survey, and have your voice heard.

Please share with your friends who fish our events, so that we can continue to do our best with our derbies.

Everyone is welcome & encouraged to attend. If you are interested in getting further involved with the club in 2023, we would be happy to chat further with you.

A reminder that the docks will remain in at the launch ramp & the ramp will remain through the winter, free to use at your own risk.

Anyone with any questions or comments regarding any of the above or general enquiries can be directed to scgameandfish@gmail.com

  5. Salmon (and rainbows,  browns & lakers) are still stocked by the MNR. The SCGFA still has the Pen project in the spring. Last few years it's been located in the marina.

Those who would like to learn more are welcome to attend the next St Catharines Game and Fish Association general meeting on Mon Oct 24  , 7pm at the clubhouse.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

  6. Hey smerch do a Google

There actually is a difference between white perch & white (Silver) Bass, very similar but both difference species. Both are part of the Tmperate bass family.

    Both do taste great!

  7. Various projects over the last 20 years to reintroduce Atlantics have been rather unsuccessful and un popular.  Recently a number of "retired brood stock" from the hatchery had been released in the harbor.  Many have stock around through spring creating a unique opportunity to catch them. I'd assume the now warm water has pushed them out to the lake
