rick
My buddy and I spent a few hours today fishing the Navy Island area and on the way home while driving along the Welland River just past the Humane Society it looked like a boat accident had just occurred. Several police, fire and ambulance personnel were combing the waters of the river, and my friend spotted what looked like a totally submerged boat close to shore. It really ruins my day to see this kind of thing, especially after we just lost a board member within the last week from a boating incident. jacek
ah, why must the sea take away the lives of those who are loved by many.truely is sad, my thoughts are with the boaters.
smerchly
It looks like another bad year for boater accidents Rick . Even though the OPP & MNR seem to be out there checking for safety & booze on board etc., boaters seem to be having accidents . It's like the new driving laws on the road....going 50k over & your car is gone for a week (way too lenient) , but they are nabbing more & more of them ......I had a very close encounter with another boat nearly hitting our boat broadside at Quinte & Bowen had the same thing happen on L.O. a few weeks ago .......People are not watching close enough .I hope we don't read about another fatality , hopefully the guy is safe ........ Seriously....how much room do people need out on a lake???? It's not like there's passing lanes, turning lanes or speed limits. Some people are just plain stupid....face it. But it's a shame when it causes an accident due to their stupidity. Cause an accident on the water....you lose your watercraft licence for life. There's no excuse. Rich Nagy
I'd say send them to jail for stupidity. Risking the lives of the rescue teams that went after them. Bunch of idiots!! It should be illegal to go past Pebbly except for the Jetboats.
Guest fishstick
"It was an accident and not like he had a choice what hospital to go to. Here's a guy who was drowning and lucky enough to be saved -- and now he faces this." LMAO....boo freaking hoo...if they weren't so stupid and understood just where the borderline was, they might have had a little more respect when screaming up and down the river. At least they are both alive, but the States have their laws. If anglers are aware of them and can respect them....so can anyone else. No excuses. I hope they never recover their 'doos = Two less idiots on the water.....

Guest fishstick
It is with great sadness that we make this announcement. A very good friend of ours died last evening. A loving father, family man, friend and fisherman. He is a board member here billye99. He went out from our place where he has a weekend get a way around 6:30 and did not return. Today we were sadly informed that he didn't make it back into shore. His boat had been found off the breakwall in Port Colbourne. Our condolences to his family... If there is anything we can do please do not hesitate to contact us. Steve and Bernadette
Dan Andrews
Oh hell I didn't know. My computer problems left me under a rock for a few days. That's horrible. Hopefully this Chippiwa accident doesn't take another. As for the jet skiers on the Niagara, there is an article in todays review you should read. The US Government sais that wasn't the pairs only landfall on American soil that day but can't state how they know that because they need to protect the identy of "witnesses" and how they gather this info. These 2 morons are now calling for more signage! Geez when I go into unknown water I look at a bloody chart first or talk to some locals and take it slow. These guys want us to clutter up the shore line with warning signs! If anything there should be signs warning boaters and shore anglers that stupid jetskiers might be present. Geez I'm starting to sound like Canada Keep us updated on the Chippawa thing Rick. I didn't see anything in the review this morning.
Dan Andrews
Stranded boaters rescued from NOTL shore

Posted By ALISON LANGLEY

Posted 21 hours ago
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – Three stranded boaters who spent the night on the shore of Four Mile Point were airlifted to safety, early Monday. Niagara Regional Police, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard were called to the creek Sunday night after receiving a distress call. A boat had been anchored off shore for much of the day but began drifting after the anchor broke away due to rough waters, police said. The boat drifted into shallow waters near the National Defence property in Niagara-on-the-Lake. A female boater suffered a shoulder injury after the trio attempted to dislodge the boat from the rocks. Emergency crews were unable to rescue the boaters that night due to the rough terrain and police and Coast Guard officers remained with the stranded boaters on the shore for the night. The group was airlifted to safety early Monday.
rick
Well I figure that it wasn't as serious as it looked and nobody was killed or injured. I checked the papers and didn't see anything either.
Rich Nagy
Could it have been a training exercise?? I know the crews get out every once in a while to practice.

Kevin B
I had a scary moment out on the water myself. I was fishing with my uncle in a 12 foot jon boat on Lake Erie (calm day, not out to far) just fishing a weed patch. When a 50-60 yacht come out from the point and goes full throttle right beside us, causing a gigantic wall of water heading our way. We knew we were in for a big wave but this wave had to have been 8 feet high. We both grabs firmly on the side of the boat as the water broke just as it got to the boat crashing and and basically sending us under water for a short moment. Luckily we both held on and no gear was lost but what an idiotic thing to do. We were drenched and P.O. Then this party yacht parks right in front of our cottage, drinking and carrying on. I was really tempted to take a portable drill and swim under their boat and make a few holes in it. I was really rattled at the time. Just to show how some people don't deserve boating licenses when the pull stupid crap like that.
Guest Edge
I'm sorry but a jonboat anywhere on L. Erie is a bad idea. There are so many deep v's for a good price...why take the risk in a flat bottom jonboat? It is built for ponds and flat water.... Getting sprayed by boat wake is nothing new anywhere in the waters of the Niagara Region... I know I sent an email to the NRP about my concerns about some of the antics occuring on our local waters...has anyone else or do we just come here to complain? Dan Andrews
I know the yacht scenario too well but by the time we recover from the wake its far too late to get numbers. There are allot of kayaks in Lake E close in and they have just as much right to the water as the cruisers. Apparently some of these captains don't feel that way. Not only do they cut in real close to my 16'er but they crank the wheel to send a big wave your way. They also cut right across the back over your lines. If I see it happen to someone else I'll get the numbers off the boat and report it to both the police and the yacht club. Sometimes you'll be trolling in the middle of nowhere and I swear this jerks stear my way from a long distance just to watch the look on our faces when the wave heads our way. I gave them a call a couple of years ago when I was having problems with a couple of jetski's on chippewa creek. My son and I were out fishing off of an old fallen tree when a couple of guys thought it would be funny to head straight at us, turn about 30' away and soak us with the wake. I wouldn't have been as concerned but my son was only 5 at the time and we were near the entrance to the power canal. There can be some wicked currents in there!! I'd say withing an hour and a half a couple of guys drifted down fishing across the creek from us and witnessed this happen again. I have no idea who they were but they confronted the guys and escorted them back towards the launch. I never heard about or saw them again Still no idea of what was going on the other day Rick???? rick
Could it have been a training exercise?? I know the crews get out every once in a while to practice. This didn't look like training. There were at least 6 police cruisers, one ambulance, the FD rescue truck and boat, a couple of suits standing around and there was something submerged close to shore. Guest fishstick
Speaking of stupidity....last Friday I was fishing on the pond by the old steel platform. There were about 5 rowing teams out there, and after they were done....the 5 morons who were driving the 9.9's decided to have drag races from the finish line up to the 250 marker and back. Six races in all, no lifejackets. You should have seen the wake these idiots were causing. I know it's not the same wake as a bigger boat. But it's the point. I guess there's no such thing as shore erosion up on the pond. Wish I could've taped it and sent it in to the Regatta honchos. Probably their stupid kids anyways.
