malinois_16
Friend and I went to Henley Island to fish tonight and I pulled out what appears to be a perch with a spine issue and lots of blue dots all over his body? Anyone have an idea what this is?
ron4blues
The "dots" are a common and harmless parasite, common on bass and perch, sometimes seen on other species. I've never seen one quite that infested before.
bigugli
The black dots are the encycted flesh grub Neascus, that lives in snails. panfish, and kingfishers, during it's life cycle. The parasite is harmless to humans, etc.. Just cook the flesh properly. When live they are a buttery coloured flesh worm that is also harmless. smerchly
When they infested with many black spots , I will not eat them . They actually feel soft when they are heavily infested . That one in the photo is the worst I've ever seen ! If you want to eat that one I would take a cours of anti biotics after the meal .....just in case........
