hammercarp
I think it's a feral goldfish. Definitely not one of those "Asian carp". Scales are too big.
meatface
As far as asian carp being in Niagara, it is possible. Probability of that, who knows. Here's an eye opening article though. http://www.toledobla...Asian-carp.html Keep in mind that 'Asian Carp' is a term associated with a variety of carp species."Asian carp" is a generic term that covers four species of nonnative fish -- bighead, silver, black, and grass carp. ' Grass Carp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_Carp Silver Carp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_carp Bighead Carp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bighead_carp Black Carp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_carp I believe that we should all become familiar with identifying these species so that we can report any sightings for investigation and keep them out of our waters. The sooner they are identified the easier it could be to control.
midas69er
Looks like a carp, maybe one of those european Carps? I wonder how these invasive species will change our fishing in the future, especially if they start spawning with the local fish and we get hybids???? tmate
Sorry for the late reply for all you guys who asked where this was found. It was found in a landlocked pond near allanburg earlier this summer close to shore. I was just doing some scoops with a butterfly net and this was one of the little guys that I pulled out. There was more than one of this species so it was not just a "fluke" that it was in this body of water.
meatface
It may be nothing. But if it's debatable, I'd contact the MNR and let them decide. If it was some sort of invasive species, the sooner they can deal with it the better. If it's not, no harm done. I'm sure they'd rather rule it out than find out too late. tmate
There are also a lot of little carp and bullheads in there. Not really worth fishing but still cool to stop and take a look before heading to some of the honey holes.
