I had an appointment this morning for an ultra sound to check my thyroid gland ....had a biopsy done a while ago . They said to be there at 11:30 a.m. for the 12:00 appt. Well , I got in the US room by 11:40 and was back home at 11: 59 ...... :D ( I live one km away)

Now , if doctors and the emerg .dept can match that ........

This is my peeve ... I understand they triage but zero updates on time angers me ... waited a few hours before someone came in and put a soft cast on my arm and said come back in a week.

I recently had an MRI at the Niagara Falls hospital. I showed up 45 minutes early, a patient who was in the machine when I arrived couldn't handle it and asked to be removed. I was on my way home about the time of my original appointment was to start. This is the second time I got bumped up due to a patient being claustrophobic.

Went for a cat scan couple of years ago, half way through they lost power and the room went dark and the machine stopped for about 5 seconds till the auxilary lights came on. Had to wait till they rebooted the system and had to redo it , darn near messed myself as they didn't want me to loose that radioactive orange drink crap they had me drink. Sucks getting old, but I guess I'm not claustrophobic.

I was fortunate to get in & out so quickly ....maybe there were cancellations due to sickness ....lots of people are sick with colds-flu . I don't like the triage system . If you come in very sick , in pain ....ready to toss up brekkie , you may have to do the 3 window routine before being admitted . I was admitted last year ....ended up in a bed in emerg. , waited 4 hours to see a doc ....took off the gown , put my clothes on & headed out the door . The place was filling up with cops & street fight injuries , & I was dropping to the bottom of the list lol . Boy , has the system changed since I was a kid when you called the doc. & he shows up at your house , bag in hand to check you out ! We have a big new hospital ,equipped with the latest technology , but people suffer in pain for hours before being treated . We were treated better 30 - 40 years ago at small hospitals with prompt service . It's apparent to me that we need more doctors . I have a family doc. but resort to going to a clinic rather than wait 3-4 weeks to see him.......Sometimes it's best to call an ambulance & get a bed immediately in the emerg.....(done that 2x)

I agree smerchly...our system really sucks...I was told I had a broken hand( 2 places)..back in August..after them messing up my appt for a cast...3 xray and four weeks later I went in to get my cast...just for the specialist to tell me my hand wasn't broken and NEVER was..well thx to them I lost 4 weeks of wages...I called the patient relations and my MP..I wanted to know how 3 xrays were misread..needless to say nothing was ever done about it..no surprise!!!!

Gotta tell my story. I broke my shoulder in July 2012 and was put in a sling and started therapy in Sept. back to work the 1st of Oct. Therapy continued until I said something wasn't right. They sent me for an MRI and the results said I needed immediate surgery. I had 3 torn ligaments, the broken bone never healed and I had to have a plate and 6 screws put in, repair the ligaments and reshape my rotator cuff. Why they never saw all that 6 months earlier, I don't know. ..........................Daniel

Well the first guy to look at my x-rays (after talking about my job), said no reason you can't go back to work in a week when the soft cast comes off, life should be good and normal. Then the second doc who was going to clear me to leave came through and said it would be an easy 4 to 6 weeks before the hardcast would come off that I had to get the following week ... at that point I nearly turned into the incredible hulk because of the money I saw envisioned not going into my bank account from work.

Was that a Harley accident boogs ? Sad sad situation when we have a new hospital equipped with the latest technology and they mis-diagnose injuries and life threatening illnesses . Have they lowered the bar for the doctors ?

Friends of girl, 18, with leukemia sign her casket with loving messages in a final goodbye after she died waiting for a hospital bed during a shortage in Canada
Laura Hillier, 18, died after waiting for a bone marrow transplant during a hospital bed shortage in Canada, despite having willing donors available
An Ontario hospital said it could only do five transplants a month and there were about 30 people who were waiting to have the procedure done
At her funeral, friends and family signed her casket with loving messages
The Hillier family is now fighting in Laura's memory to end 'deadly' wait times for hospital beds in Canada

My mother had to wait 3 months to see a specialist for a hernia. A FREAKING HERNIA!!

My grandfather in law had to wait 3months for a cancer operation. When they finally did it the cancer had spread all over and he was dead within weeks.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread.

Mods should shut it down before I go all out Liberal bashing - the cause of the problems in this nation.

I've deleted a pile of stuff I had written already.

Ha ha! Yer right Bill. I got cut off by a woman driver and hit the curb. I jumped off the bike intending to tuck and roll. Well, maybe 20 years ago it woulda worked but tuck didn't happen and roll never showed up either. It was more of a splat and an ugly snapping sound. Best part was the bike only had a minor scratch on one pipe. LOL ................................Daniel

.....I am sorry to see the sad times you went through . My first post was to give credit to our health care since it has been causing so much grief over the years . Cuts were made many years ago , laying off staff , some heading south to get a job ....while our population increased . I can tell you many stories of sloppy heath care about people I knew who paid the ultimate price either by waiting too long for treatment or other mistakes . My mother had abdominal pain for a year before they decided to "have a look inside" , only to discover too much cancer to be treatable ......she passed 6 months later at 48 .

Let's hope we get better care in the future . Surgery methods have certainly improved with the use of arthroscopic tools .....I just had my gall bladder removed & was home a few hours later ..... Thanks for posting that Outdoorsman , I hear you !
