I'm going to be in the Kawartha's to but not really keen on the lower Buckhorn..Last time there I had the impression it was fished on hard. The Smallies were in fact very small.I have to keep telling myself its a family trip LOL..Damn I wish they would change the date next week is still prime for sight fishing Erie..

Yea the fishing sucked. Lol for lack of a better term. My buddy got a 3lb smallie but that was about it for notable fishing. I went 11 for 13 all around 1 lb or less. I think it’s time to change up my opener spot

My converter is making a rattling noise & my mechanic  told me it was the heat shield rattling . I spent $300 on the a.c about 2 weeks ago , only drove 120 km & it's gone again . I suppose there's no warranty and  I expect they will want to replace the whole unit & I have no clue how much that will cost ...well over  $1000 I think . Maybe I should pass on getting it fixed there after they give me an 'estimate' . This is the 2nd time the air failed . First time only lasted the summer ....

Not sure where your located but I’d look into all in one auto on read rd. It’s supposed to be a high performance shop but the mechanic there does everything and he’s reasonable. He will tell you honestly what needs to be done and what can wait. Any tradesmen that says “hey listen if it’s my vehicle I don’t think it needs to be done” is good in my books.

There are some kayak tournaments. Id just Google it and look for what you’re interested in.

bass opens soon so maybe we can put on a fun tournament. $20 buy in,  biggest fish prize or something like that.

I’d be down for that would be a lot of fun

I havent tried carping from my yak but one day I’ll try it. Did it seem like they were spawning? Hopefully by the weekend they will be post spawn and on the feed bag.
For the tournaments you have to be a Canadian Carp Society member to participate in them. There’s 4 tournaments all together. The SSF (spring, summer, fall) which is 9-10 days each event. Summit your top 3 fish on the site taking a few pics(you holding the fish, you weighing the fish and the scale reading). Then theres the challenge series which is 32 member bracket fishing 1vs1 the winner moves on to the next round. You and your partner choose if you wanna fish 12or24hr session and try to fish at the same time but if schedules don’t line up you can fish them separate and you summit your top 4 fish.
there are prizes. The spring tournament actually had awesome prizes. Bait,shelters,rods/reels etc.

the site is a paid membership but it’s well worth it. All the content is unreal. Videos, podcasts, bait making ,rigs etc. not to mention you get to see some truly epic catches from all over.
If you fish carp or are looking to get into it I’d join the site forsure.

That’s really cool I’ll check it out. I’m going to try for carp from the yak this weekend coming see what happens. As for the carp in the shallows they seemed to be feeding from what I could tell. Rummaging through the weeds kicking up a ton of silt. Fairly big guys too but not together. Hope it helps.

  5. Does anyone know of any kayak tournaments around these parts ? Does anyone meet up and fish with their yaks? I went out jordan harbour again this morning for a few hours, was a bit windy hard to keep in a spot I wanted to fish. Got one little catfish on second drop but the wind was to much blowing me around frustrating to correct all the time. Anyways plan on fishing every Sunday morning 6am to 10am all summer either martindale or Jordan harbour if anyone wants to meet up and fish.

  6. Hey guys just wondering what finders everyone is using for there yaks even photos of possible setups. I’m thinking it would be ideal but I don’t want to weigh it down to much? How does the batteries hold up etc. any tips help general knowledge would be great. Hitting jordan harbour on Sunday first time in the new yak see how she does can’t wait. Not sure what I’ll get into but I’m hoping for some decent sized kitties.

    cheers guys.

Looks like an awesome trip. I’ve never done a portage trip.
    nice looking fish

You should try it! We’re headed into Kawarthas high lands park for bass opener this year. Can’t wait! It’s a whole different experience! Algonquin was packed this weekend I was surprised to see how much gear guys were bringing over a 2.2k portage trail.

Some beautiful fish there, looks like you had a great trip. Haven't done a real Algonquin canoeing trip since high school during the May 24 weekend in 1986. Had some big temp swings during that trip too, cold and wet, then hot and eaten alive by black flies next.

That’s exactly what we had, but the reverse. Hot and humid portaging on the way in, cold and rainy on the way out.

  9. Made our yearly trek into welcome lake in Algonquin. Weather was interesting to say the least. 36 degrees In may -.- and they say global warming isn’t a thing. Anyways we did well on the fish, buddies went 7/7 both of them and I went 3/5 on Saturday after a slug fest to get into the lake friday. Thunderstorm hit Sunday morning we got soaked and decided that was enough after the gruelling portages in and took a nice paddle / portage out. All In all a great quick weekend and some good eating fish too.

looks like a small chevy but they can use a couple of different distributors / ignition systems .Any good auto parts store should be able to help you but if its the points then clean ,file ,set gap at recomended width n fire er up

Tried that. I think its the capacitor, but I ordered both just to be safe from hartzel marine. Hope to get it going next week

  11. Hey guys got a new to me boat from a friend and having issues getting the motor running, after a few days of mucking around with it, seems as though the condenser and points are shot. Just wondering if any of you guys know where I would begin to look for parts for it. It’s a ‘96 omc 3.0 cobra for reference.

If your talking about mine then ya I like the setup worked perfect yesterday. Has two rod holders now and the rods don’t get in the way when peddling.

How far out are you in the yak?

The cons, park is open and kayaks and canoes are out. The harbor looks mint.  Going to hit the lake from here and if too Rollie I’ll fish in the harbor.

Any luck today? Wanted to get out in the yak but the day got away from me. Side note anyone good with boat motors, inherited an 3.0 cobra inboard outboard that doesn’t want to turn over. Not a mechanic by any means but I did try a few things and nothing doing. Might be going to scrap if I can’t figure it out without dumping a ton of money into it.

You are right there Tyler ...a liability issue .  These days you can be a millionaire spilling a 'too hot' coffee on your lap .lol

Gene ...I have a large torque wrench , an electric  impact driver with a set of impact sockets ,all 4 years old .

I can change the 8 tires in 2 hrs . but I don't trust my back now.... The hard part is lifting the tires to the wheel studs .

I could try using some boards , a jack or a chain hoist . lol

Just got a call to check out my old central air unit , coming Monday  ( $ 166. ) kachinggg ....that's a 1/2 dozen fishing lures !   :Gonefishing:

Couldn’t help but notice you talk about someone checking out your a/c, I got a guy that’s great and very fair should you ever need a second opinion. As for the tires, I use Q-tire on hartzel for my wife’s SUV I find them to be fair and easy to deal with. Just my 2 Pennys
