  1. ....and across the street was the best General Store I have ever set foot in. A trip here as kids meant coming our with a new lure and an ice cream from the shop to the left of the store
  2. Small world.......do you remember the old locks where the lock master would let the kids jump into the Amhic side of the locks when draining the water out of the locks? The Schmelher (I know I butchered the name) but it was an old school tavern that burned down. Had a family cottage on Maple island and frequented the area as kids and now we vacation there for a week a year
  3. My daughter went down with some rugby team mates for 6 weeks of backpacking and the pictures are absolutely stunning
  4. I am just trying to get some updates on my boat squared away (trilling motor, 2nd fishfinder). But I have some trips planned - Couple of weekends in April pickerel fishing Detroit River our of LaSalle (while in town visiting in-laws) - Bass Opener at buddies cottage near Parry Sound - Early season spring trout fishing on Lake Ontario (out of Fishermans Pier) - Lake Erie (Port Maitland & Leamington) - St. Clair out of Jeannettes Creek - Week on Lake Cecebe - 4 days on Red Cedar Lake in late June - Canoe fishing on French/Pickerel River
  5. I need to tap into the inner propeller heads in this great forum - specifically around my new Terrova trolling motor. I bought a new Terrova p/n Terrova80/DSC/WR-60" and now I would like to add a bow mounted fish finder. I read the manual and there are many different options to control this motor - wireless remote that it comes with or via iphone using One Boat Network app. Using the One Boat Network app one can also link the trolling motor to a Hummingbird fish finder and I am assuming Lowrance as well (with the adapter) and once this happens you can save waypoints to send to the motor and allow the motor to follow a specific depth. I am assuming the unit just needs GPS and a mapping card?? Does anyone have this motor and can tell me if my assumptions are correct? Does anyone have a bow mounted fishfinder recommendations? I find the MinnKota web sit useless because it keeps telling you what the Terrova can do but it but does not spell out what hardware/software that you need to make it happen. I am using a Lowrance HDS7 for my main unit. Thanks gentleman
  6. Keep an eye out at COSTCO. I bought two and I only paid $139.99 each - they had this wicked sale and just saw them the one time
  7. I have a couple of Spy Point Flex cameras and they work very well. Get 50 pics a month free with each camera but you need to set them up on two different accounts to get this service. If you set them up on the same account it is 50 pics between both of the cameras
  8. I sure hope that they do not get a foot hold in Niagara.
  9. 147lbs gutted, skinned, de-hoofed and no head
  10. I have a Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 (60" 55lbs 12V) on my Starcraft Renegade 168. Over the pandemic I acquired an iPilot kit for a reasonable price and installed it. It worked well although I always felt the 55lb was a little underpowered for the size of the boat. Fast forward two years and now my iPilot head is not working - and it is not worth repairing. So I am going to convert it back to a foot pedal control and install the original head back on the motor and sell it. I'll also sell the iPilot remote that came with the kit. So I figure I need a 80lb 24V motor and am looking at the Motor Guide Xi5 c/w GPS and Sonar or the Minn Kota Terrova with iPilot (just not so sure about this technology since my last one only lasted 2yrs). Any suggestions? Any idea where the best places to buy these - fishing show??
  11. Tough hunt in 89B this year. Managed to get a beautiful 14pter down the week before the controlled hunt but have not seen anything since then.
  12. I use a Zodiac Premise 1000 Flea Spray spray on my clothes that has Permethrin
  13. I hope they never get a foothold in Ontario - it would be devastating to the farmers, deer and turkey population.
  14. Just got back from Anjigaming (AirDale) and we had a great time!! We drove straight through the day on Friday and stayed with Jenn and Martin at their lodge at Hawk Junction and after an amazing breaky at the lodge we drive to the air base at Wawa for our 9AM departure. Flight in was smooth and we were unpacked and on the water by noon. We were the first group on this lake in 2 years (it was closed for most of the pandemic) so we were excited about getting out on the lake. The boats were 14' Naden's with 8hp Merc 4 strokes and ran fine. Fishing was very good once we got a good lay of the land and by the end of the week we landed close to 200 fish with the largest pike in the 42-44" range and the largest Walleye was in the 24" range. We had a couple of fish fry's for lunch and only had rain blow through a couple of times in the week but the bugs were thick when the wind died down in the evening. The cabin has a solar array and a sat router that allowed us to get WiFi so we could text and send pics of the trip. The week went by quickly and I am already looking forward to next years trip!
  15. Most gun ranges went members only during the pandemic - mostly due to the increase of non-members getting out and using the facilities. I loved shooting at Galt but cannot justify BRRC, HGC and Galt membership
  16. 😄 Well someone voted for him
  17. Call me negative but when I see the gov't giving me something back I wonder where they are going to take something from me (and we all know they are - or will be).
  18. Cabot Arms in PA is founded by a Hamilton boy from Cathedral. Had many pints with him over the years at the Gown. Well done Rob! https://robbreport.com/lifestyle/sports-leisure/behold-45-million-one-kind-meteorite-handguns-video-exclusive-photos-231849/
  19. Have a general question for everyone and I am sure this topic has been beaten to death. My spinning set-ups are 2 x Med/Fast 6'6" rods and 2500 reels and 1 x Med/Heavy 7' rod with a 2500 reel and all three of these set-up's have 30lb braid c/w 12lb floro leadersMy baitcaster set-ups are 2 x Med/H 7" 1pc rods with 40lb braid c/w 12lb floro leader and 1 x Med/Fast 6'6" 2pc rod with 12lb mono (Tri XL).I really like the feel and handling of braid (and the fact that it lasts for several years) but I feel that the floro leader is required especially in Erie or northern lakes - if not for the visibility factor but the ability to clear a snag without snapping a rod. I am using mono in my one set-up just because I have always used it.Should I be looking at floro or mono for a main line instead of braid (PowerPro) - am I missing out on anything? I fish a lot of worm harnesses/bottom bouncers, jigs, crank bates, and topwater (a little bit of everything).I know guys that use nothing other than braid and others nothing but floro/mono
  20. We have curb pick-up so I just need to get them to the curb by large tarps and the city comes and takes them away. BUT I have 3 large maples that drop early and a HUGE Oak that drops late and I am still usually 15-20 bags after the last leaf pick-up.
  21. J&J does a great job as does the guy in Lynden. Both times the prop came back looking like it was out of a package.
  22. Thanks for all your help guys. I went to Bay City Marine on the Tuesday before Canada Day weekend and Deb showed me a nice swim platform ladder and said they can install it after the weekend. She told me to bring it in on Monday (today) and I was there at 8:30AM and it was done by 3PM! They did an amazing job - now that is the difference service makes.
  23. I understand they are busy but when I call mid April and I book a time to drop it off in June I do not expect them to keep it for almost 2 weeks and then tell 'should' get to it by the end of the following week.
