Dan Andrews
Well the wood duck box I put 30' up my oak tree attracted a screech owl rather quickly last year. I got the idea to hang it when I found more owls than wood duck feathers while cleaning FECC duck boxes in the winter. Owls nest in February. Well the box has hosted many families of many species, birds, owls, squirrels but I haven't seen the owl since the spring. Well he's back and flying between 2 boxes I now have hung. I'm finding pellets on the back porch which you can see the fur and bones of mice through them. Well it turns out that after examining last years pictures and pictures of this one, that it is indeed a screech owl, but not the same one. This one isn't near as cute and its allot tamer. I enjoy watching it glare at the neighbours cat and it has no problem when I walk under the tree or the kids play nearby. Last years owl would quickly disappear into the box at any sign of commotion. Either way, they're cool to see.
