marktheperchman
The ice boom has nothing to do with the lake freezing. It always goes in this time of year.

bob
The ice boom has nothing to do with the lake freezing. It always goes in this time of year. Pretty sure that is the reason for the ice boom

smerchly
Info from the Jordan Library Bruce ( 1970 ) . During the 50's we rented the old steel flat bottom boats for $2 per day and rowed all over the bay past the trestle to fish for cats , carp , perch or anything with fins . http://images.ourontario.ca/lincoln/57571/data?n=27 ....if you are in the big city , drop in I have a fish for you ....... Mike Pike
I can never get enough of those old pictures. Especially when you know the spots and what they are like today. And I especially like your stories, Smerch, about how far back you go, what you fished for there, etc. When I was a kid, we'd drive past on the QEW on my way to my Grandparents and of course I'd always bug my parents to take me fishing there. Sadly they weren't fisher types and I could only dream.

The ice boom goes in when the lake temperature reaches 4c or dec
marktheperchman
And how often does the lake hit 4c before December 16? Not very often. Hence the boom almost always goes in at the same time each year. It doesn't mean the lake will freeze.
