Hope to target the Grand more this summer in my kayak for pickerel if we don't get all the rains like last summer.
And Lake Erie for smallmouth when the season opens.
Would also like to take the yak north on a day trip once or twice to try some inland lakes.
I may also end up buying a trailer for my kayak, as I’m finding it harder to get an 82 Lb kayak on the roof rack of my Cherokee (just one more joy of aging) 🥴
If you go north with the yak, what do you plan on targeting and how far north are you talkin'? -

What’s everyone’s plans for this season? Any trips planned? Doing anything out of the ordinary? Targeting new species?
-this year I plan on fishing the salmon durbys quite a bit. (Boat and kayak)
-get out more for Erie walleye kayaking.
-spring catts on the grand kayaking.
- fish some new lakes in the area I’ll be moving to.
-of course Carp fishDefinitely want to kayak the Grand more in search of a giant cats... since the spot I normally would go to on the 12 is overrun by the homeless. Launch out of Port Maitland.
Then when trout opens and I like to hit up the streams for brookies until Pike opens.
So far, I have a week off in July that I will more than likely do a backcountry trip couple lakes in somewhere. Also toying with staying at a cabin on Rice Lake in the October for some fishing/relaxing for a few days before continuing on to Quebec possibly. Other than that,no other trips planed.
And truthfully, my brother has been getting into the carp fishing. I may join him for some of that in the spring.

It seems that "cold" spell has disappeared Gene , I was hoping to punch a few holes in the ice but it looks like deja vu from last winter .
After spend a lot of time getting ready for ice fishing it's time to pack it all away and polish up the bank gear again . I have been cleaning and lubing my reels
for bank fishing . You may want to try there again in early March , maybe the fish will follow the smelt earlier this year .
I should take my big canoe for a spin as soon as the water is paddleable , may be a chance the "ice fish" are still there .
Deja-vu from last year indeed... Got a week of local fishable ice again. Only difference for me this year is I had a little time off to fish it lol.

Many years ago there was "Jacks Army & Navy" store on St. Paul St. downtown . Then he closed shop and opened a small area in Herzogs in the basement near the end of town near Geneva .
Thats got to be the one I'm thinking of... It was near the train station end of St Paul

There's a photo of a coyote with a small dead dog in it's jaws ,taken at NOTL this morning . People are being advised to have a "stick" on hand to ward off an attacking yote . I don't think a stick will deter a yote , better make it a baseball bat , ect . or some sort of spray .
There was an Army surplus store in St Catharines on St Paul that sold "dog spray" on a keychain. It's been a while since I lived in the city and I barely go there now so I don't know if that store still exists. I'm sure you can find that spray in other stores though. A girl I used to work with carried it.

Where would I find maps of crown land?
Just seen this. For looking up Crown Land (for camping), I use the Crown Land Atlas.

I'm hoping we don't lose all the ice and it freezes up solid again .... not like last 'winter' .
With you on that.

My wife is looking at renting a cottage/house on lake simcoe for a week in the summer. We're not going through an outfitter, but just renting from a property owner.
Anyone ever fish there in the summer? If so, any recommended areas to stay (i.e. Innisfil)? How is the fishing? Perch? Smallies? Pike?
Any help would be appreciated.
Try looking on Air BnB too if you wanted to stay in Innisfil there's some properties worth checking out. It's a big lake so potential for some big fish. Lake Simcoe has all those species.

There's a good variety of fish there including pike , carp and channel cats . There's a story in todays paper about some homeless people living in tents at the "Root Beer River" , that Marth11 called it as he fished from the cement abutment there . It's not safe to fish alone there anymore unless we stay close to where most people walk their dogs , jog or bike near Glendale Ave bridge . Joey , aka Marth11 fished this spot a few years back but it's not a good spot to fish now .
Definitely a great spot for carp and Cats. Last year I went a couple times to get a line wet, but it made for an uncomfortable feeling of not being safe not to mention they've made a complete mess of the area on both sides. I just found myself looking over my shoulder a fair bit, so I put a bell on my rod lolRBR was also great for channel cats... Haven't fished there in years though.

I heard that a man was walking his dog near that spot at Hillcrest Ave. just a couple hundred yards upstream . They said the man was trying to save his dog and he went under and the dog was saved ....still looking for the man . Nothing about this in the Standard ??
The current is very strong there as it approaches rapids at the new bridge . I heard they are seaching the 12 Mile system to Port Dalhousie .
Very sad news......
I heard he is 35 .
He was seen going down the 12 on a raft ....very bad place to raft . His small dog looks very much like our Shih Tzu
Yes heard about this. Very sad news.

He is a brother I wouldn't trade for anything. Bit of a smart-ass sometimes, but all good brotherly fun lol.
Tried for cats from the kayak last year, but I'll be honest. I gotta work on the yak a bit for the Grand and get an anchor system for the or else you're drifting. The trolling motor will help getting to spots, but I want to be more stationary. The other thing too, is that I was using the wrong weights for the grand... But I did grab some catfish rigs with 2oz weights from Grand River Outdoors... I used them on the 12 and they produced.
Let me know when you go Tyler, If I'm off I'd be down.
