I buy a 2 pack of the cheapest brand name cameras on sale with SD cards and hope for the best every year...I.have several muddys,Moultrie, stealth and others mostly 12 or 14 mp ...they do the trick...u have to keep the contacts clean in battery compartment though a little rust corrosion or even spider webs anything...they stop working properly...I use two in every area I scout and find the most dominant trails being used and put them 40 yards apart on opposite sides of the trail....and ya at some point it will all work out the way it should and pattern a certain deer coming past your spot ...but I'm betting it doesn't happen too often...this is canada..we get 1 buck tag by law....u either wait for the one you want or ya shoot your meat deer and be done...get your extra doe tag whatever...but in the u.s...these guys get multiple tags and have giant farms with plenty of huge deer they take inventory of and start their hit list...cameras more valuable then probably...out of the few nicer deer I've shot over the years I didn't have pics of them they just showed up on the property.i like to prolong my season now hunting bigger deer till I get one ..if not by Christmas il shoot anything....to each their own.sorry for the rant! Good luck fellas!

I have a Tactacam Reveal and it's been amazing. Super easy to set up. Only maybe 10$ bucks a month, and as soon as I fill my tags I suspend the account till next year. My third season with this camera . Unfortunately if someone wants your camera bad enough you will not stop them

Had the turkeys come through on schedule sadly they look a wrong turn away from my decoys and went to feed in the next field. Thank god for blinds today. Didn’t respond to a single call!

Well, I got it done today in about 15 minutes.
I was wandering around the house this morning trying to figure out what to do today with the wet weather and said “screw it, @genec said they like the rain. i’m going to go sit in in my blind.” Got out of the house at about 9:15 and was set up and in the blind by 9:45. Waited about 5 minutes and hit the call with a few clucks and a purr. A gobbler sounded off right behind me. I figured he was close so i gave a few soft purrs and he came walking right into the decoys. I made the shot with the crossbow at 20 yards and he went straight down. Game over.
22 lbs, call it 9 3/4” beard although one strand may be 10, and 1 3/16 spurs.

    thanks Gene!

Hey guys! Got it done this morning!!! Got my first ever bird at 7am right on the dot! Am working afternoons this week and Got done at 11pm last night went home and woke up at 445am to get out there. Was a beautiful chilly morning had 3 does come in around 630am, heard a few Tom's gobble. I looked over and saw a Tom walking in slowly to my decoys, didn't call at all today just set up my decoys.. he was so focused on the hen decoy and that's when I got him one shot and fell down, I'm so thankful to harvest my first ever bird.

I usually do a dawn hunt, and I’ve given up on putting out any decoys for early morning hunts.
Why: because at dawn the gobblers are with hens, and they don’t seem interested in decoying then.
If I were going out after 11:00 am to hunt after the second week of the season, then I would put out my good Avian-X hen decoy and my thunder chicken jake, as by that time of day the hens are nesting, and gobblers are roaming in search of other hens to breed.

That’s super nice of you man thanks! But I’d say I’m for sure longer than that. But if something changes and I’m shorter than what I thought I will 100% message you thanks again!

I started bowhunting in the ‘70s with a 50 lb recurve bow, then after a few years went to a 50 lb compound (only 50% letoff in those days).  When school ended in June, I would start practising 5 days a week right thru till opening day in Oct. before I felt competent with the bow.  Eventually I got tendonitis, and couldn’t pull the bow any more, so bought a used PSE crossbow (125 lb) to hunt.  As someone stated previously, very little practice needed to get 2” groups out to 30 yds (my max shot I would take with it).
Then 4 years ago I got a new PSE (150 lb), and now guarantee 2” groups out to 50 yards (my new max distance).  Only a few shots needed each fall to ensure groups are still right on the sight lines, and I’m good for the season!
Whatever type of archery equipment you choose to use, the cardinal rule is know your maximum yardage limit for accurate, consistent shots, and always stay within that distance, and only shoot when you know you can hit the vital heart/lung area!

I'm a proponent of only taking up a compound bow if you are going to practice a lot. We do 3D archery shoots at the Thorold Conservation Group club about every second Sunday throughout the summer and in between I still practice even though I've been doing it over 40 years and I it is automatic for me. You practice so that everything...draw, release, follow through ... becomes natural and you don't have to think when the time comes for a shot.
Besides that ...it is just a fun hobby even if you don't hunt.
I will be posting our 3D shoots calendar in the Hunting section soon. I think we're looking at starting up April 30th. I'll be out practicing as soon as the weather gets a little better.

100% agree Mark. We have a hunt group of 3 people. Me and one guy use a crossbow, the 3rd uses a compound bow. Every year the guy with the compound bow is tracking and losing deer as a result of bad shots. I fully admit I don't practice as much as I should, but my shots are deadly accurate with my excalibur. Haven't lost a deer yet, and they all drop fast. I will stick with my crossbow. Plus way easier on my arms and shoulders!

I don't think you will have any problems killing deer with a compound bow if you are practicing on a regular basis. I think that's the main problem is  most people don't practice all year, and then think come deer season they can make precise accurate shots.
