Jmo1685
Im trying to find it too, with no success ! I know I have the paper at home, and maybe I will email or call them and explain to them about how this could potentially have a negative impact on the Bass fishery in the Welland River! Who knows, maybe they will print a story the next week explaining the seasons, and why they are so important ! That way we can turn this negative story into a learning expierence for the public who may not know !

Jmo1685
So they took a picture of an out of season bass. Get over it . Many people read the paper (Im assuming at least). Perhaps that many of the people who read the paper don't know the regs and rules about fishing. They may think its ok to fish for Bass at anytime then. This is a perfect chance to let the paper know about the rules and regs, and then passing that information back to the public. This will help educate those who read the paper, and perhaps they will pass on the new information they learned to others who are fishing and may also not knowing the regs. This is all about stewardship and education. There is nothing to "Get Over" here... just merely an oppurtunity to spread awareness to the public about the fisheries and waterways in the area, so that future generations can enjoy them as much, if not more, than we do. LoverofDrum
So they took a picture of an out of season bass. Get over it . captnn, you miss completely everything at play here.... it is merely not just a "picture" I am astounded at some of the attitudes in this forum by members who have been here for a while. Absolutely astounded. To read some of the comments on different threads from anglers who just do not care about anything other than what they can catch and when is truly incredible. I am stunned that an experienced angler only sees a picture of an out of season bass. lol my god this forum is mind boggling at the best of times with some of the stuff I see here yes Captnn, it is ok to teach our youth to fish for out of season fish and then be awarded prizes for them... oh boy Niagara, i think I will jst stick to my out-of-town forum..... this place make me go nutty

captnn
I didn't miss anything.Bye. Do you think that posting the regulations in the paper will stop grown people from targeting bass. This photo was an isolated incident. You tell a small kid that he can't have a prize because he is not supposed to catch certain fish. What will he remember the rules or not getting a prize. The fish was released.

" Nope, it won't stop the ignorant from ignoring the rules if they choose to. Then again, I didn't 100% say it would stop those who disrregard the rules anyways.... I also didn't say anything about stripping the boy of his prize either... This is again, an EDUCATIONAL oppurtunity that we can send to the community... What i am saying is that its an oppurtunity to educate those who have no clue about the rules. It's a sad fact, but those who poach are going to poach, no matter what we do. But why shouldn't we try and stop future anglers from becoming poachers? And why shouldn't we try to help create environmental stewards for the future ? bigdog
Boy, oh boy! Maybe if you knobs learned to read, you would get the point of the statement. The statements aren't directed at the kids, its directed at the paper and the organizers. They should have known better! You guys should lighten up, get a clue and be ambassadors for fishing. Just remember, this is a free site and is kept alive by sponsorships...so trying to get rid of people and being jerks isn't a great way to retain sponsors and keep this a free site! I will be happy to continue this conversation through PM's if you wish.

smerchly
I'm quite sure when we have the Kids Derby day in Port Dalhousie every spring that any species caught by the kids is weighed and a prize awarded , bass included . Why tell a kid your nice 4 lb. bass can't win a prize ? OOS fish are carefully released . I'm not sure about sturgeon unless a quick measurement is made ....anyone know the rules on this ? Adult anglers "should " know the rules when they fish . I have spoken to 3 anglers at Port Dal. who thought bass season doesn't start in zone 20 until tomorrow until I explained the rules to them . I just picked up a new reg. book at C.Tire on 4th yesterday .....they have lots of them , at the automotive end of the store.

smerchly
does anyone talk about fishing on this site are just argue about the regs LOL ......bass season is upon us .......It can be a little confusing to some who don't know the Niagara area well . Today , I can catch bass on the pier or from the east/west walls at the harbour at Port Dalhousie . If I walk across the road & fish the pond , I could get a nice fine catching them . Same thing applies to the upper & lower Niagara R. We "seasoned" pros know, , but many others don't know for sure . Maybe it's time to make the bass season the same for both zones ? ROB MCINTOSH
Take it easy guy's: This issue comes up every year and the same comments are made each year. You are right when you say just make the rules the same across the board USA included. The devoted bass guys have been trying to get this fixed for years,I have asked the CO'S what the differance is between US bass and Canadian bass and to this day they still can't tell us. The next one is do they spawn at differant times, sometimes yes, it go's by water temp and yes the U.S. side may get warmer before the Canadian side because of the current and depths of water. To me it would make sense to make opening bass season one date and one date only across the board, but the only way to do that is to get every one on board and plead our case to the Ministry, the only thing is it will take more than just a few e-mails it will take thousands from us and the U.S side as well. So if you wish to do this then get started if not and you think it should just stay the same then stop your bitchen about OOS BASS and just try to chill when you see this happen and just try to inform them about the rules and regs in the different zones.
