That's a great haul by any standards!!

Hopefully you get some answers and results from your doctor. I haven't seen my family doctor since before COVID. My daughter tried to get in to see him for an issue a couple of weeks ago and instead of seeing her he gave her a prescription for antibiotics. She ended up going to emerg yesterday and received unexpectedly really quick care from the emerg doctor, complete with a round of tests. Nice that we have "free" healthcare when you can get it...

Sounds like my day fishing in Ottawa last week Bill, nothing! No pickups, no bumps, nothing jumping or rolling...just nothing. It was still nice to be out though.

Memories!!!!

Every species is open so it's going to be tough to decide what to do. When I was there in 2016 I went in pretty much blind and ended up with two almost identical 31" musky, a small largie and some small dink perch. Didn't target carp that time which I may focus on them this time.

Wish me luck gents!!. My wife has a two day course to attend in Ottawa next week so I'm going to tag along, why not?!?! While she's in class I'll be fishing. Only going to take the carp gear and will likely hit up Dow's Lake. There are so many areas in Ottawa that are good carp swims but I only have the time to concentrate on one. Again, wish me luck!

I'm still a youngster on this site, it'll be exactly 8 years on Thursday for me.

It has been a few years for me as well. We'd usually go in behind Kearney or South River. We'd go in opening weekend, end of April/first of May, usually 3 or 4 canoes. One year we began the trip with light snow falling, only to have the temps reach the mid-high teens by the afternoon. That trip turned into a harrowing experience as we had to deal with howling winds and huge waves as we crossed the final, shallow lake to our vehicles. Two local, very experienced guys dumped their canoe while crossing this lake just before us. On another trip, the temps dropped to -7 both nights. We were all cozy in our sleeping bags but of course you need to exit them to get the fire going and breakfast started. Both mornings I volunteered to get the firewood, the extra activity helped to warm me up!! Those trips sure bring back the memories, fish, food, moose and lots of laughs!!!

It hasn't happened to me...yet, but yes, you must know how your shotgun patterns at different yardages.

And it is dependent on the size of shell you're using, how tight your choke is and how well your gun patterns. I agree with Surf and Turf, I'm comfortable out to 30 yards. I'm sure that I could stretch it out to 50 yards or maybe even further but I like a clean, ethical kill.

Kind of related...I saw two guys on the weekend, fishing the Welland River just off of Oakwood in Niagara Falls, north side of the river between Montrose and the QEW. Driving by it looked like they were set up for carp but they could have been after cats.

8-17 pound test and 1/4 to 3/4 lure weight.

I honestly don’t even know if I’ll ever use it, maybe to try it out once. I think I’ll just hang onto it because it is very unique. One site I was on today said that these old Abu’s are somewhat collectable.

A friend of mine contacted me today as she was cleaning out her recently deceased father’s house saying that he had some old rods and reels. I stopped by and picked up a couple of old level-winds that aren’t in the greatest shape but are kinda cool. I also got a rod and reel combo. The reel is a 1973 Abu Ambassadeur 4000D in really good shape. It’s mounted on a Daiwa linear interline Procaster X rod. I’ve never seen one before. When the line comes off the reel, it travels through one guide then goes inside the rod, exiting at the tip. Anybody familiar with this model of rod? It still has the plastic on the cork handle.
