I agree Dave .....I can go back to the fifties when ships were passing through the old canal into the Henley pond to be scapped out at that old steel dock area. We spent our summers at "Michgan Beach" which was all sand and is now a marina and No Fishing . I could list many spots where we spend our days fishing and swimming at the waterfront . For the past few years they have dumped big rocks against the piers at Port Dal. which ruined our easy access , easy fish netting etc.
Of course the answer is , as usual , follow the money . Sports fishing from shore doesn't bring in much revenue . So many  have water craft for fishng and pleasure which brings in big bucks . Expect to pay higher parking and launch fees in the future as they got us in a corner now.

I agree with bigugli. They advertise a 35 minute crossing but that's the actual time for the high speed run under good conditions. What they neglect to tell you is the wait to board and leave the dock, then there is the slow speed taxi to where you can open it up. Then, when you arrive at Toronto Harbour, there's the slow speed meander to the docking area, the time to secure the craft and disembark. The 35 minute run becomes more like 2 hours in actual time. Plus, you have to drive to Port Weller, park your car then wait to board. In Toronto you have to leave the boat and then secure some sort of transportation to your actual destination, all this in often inclement weather. Tourists might do it once just for the experience but they are dreaming if they think they will attract daily business commuters. As bigugly said, it has been tried many times in the past and they all failed.

This isn't the first time they've tried running a commuter service from St Catharines to Toronto.  All previous efforts were financial failures.  Without seeing a real plan with substance to address a number of key issues. I expect a fairly similar result.

$15 is a good price for 100 worms . I looked for them last night but I saw only a few which was surprising considering all the rain lately .

I'm sure the leeches are quite pricy , those suckers give me the creeps, it's a task to use maggots   ....so I'll pass on the jelly donuts
I have an antique 40+ year old fridge to keep worms . When I go on trips I use a foam box and put it inside a  plastic cooler in the shade and put a large rock etc. on it, and use a large ice pack & change it every 12 hours. We had one encounter with a coon at the French R . and lost most of our worms . I chased it with a broom as he had a big mouthfull of worms dangling from his mouth , but he escaped with his dinner .
BTW ...the one door fridge will be going out for trash as it doesn't keep my beer cold enough or freeze  ....good for making a smoker if anyone wants it ...anytime .

The price of minnows, it’s cheaper to buy the little assed hooks and catch your own…and just hope that the damn Goby’s leave the bait alone.

I should follow your lead, Smerch, but the last time I tried I gave up after accumulating a small pile of the little f**ckers. The Pine Martens were ecstatic with the buffet at least 😂

That would save a lot of back pain and $ on batteries ......but I hate giving governments money for worms .  It's food !
They tax minnows as well ....unless you buy them elsewhere or catch your own as I do.
We won't have much choice when using cash is not an option .

I think they’re grossly overestimating just how many people are going to use it.

I live a 3 minute walk from the beach, I’ve honestly no idea how they’re going to work out the logistics of putting that much traffic down Arthur Street, I’m not so sure that anyone else has and it’ll become a nightmare for locals who live around this area.

On a positive note, getting into Toronto for Leafs and Jays games will be easier, and if they construct a pier into to lake to launch the craft from, the structure might attract some fish.

I frequent St Johns for quick trips after work around bass opener usually but pretty early in the summer it gets pretty sludged up and unfishable until fall.

Chippawa creek conservation area has a pond that’s is chocked full of bluegill and has docks similar to St Johns. The only downside there is you gotta pay to get in and it gets busy on the weekends.

I think St.John's pond will be choked solid with weeds after these hot summer days .  Any shallow spots will have plenty of weeds and some open spots to fish also . The Welland River and the old Rec.canal may produce some pannies as well as some bass.  (drop shot bottom fishing)

if you go into Charles Daley park you should be able to dunk a worm into 15 or 16 and catch alot. under the north service road bridge in 15 mile creek there is loads of sunfish aswell. use a very small hook.

I recall years ago mom wanted me to get some hornets above the back door, went through her aerosol cans looking for a hornet blaster , didn't find any but there was a can of Easy Off oven cleaner,  on direct contact it worked just as well 😅

Yes , "Moosebunk" has posted many great stories and photos of his fishing escapades over the years . He is a top notch writer and has been to many distant places to catch huge fish , from musky to sturgeon . I loved the colours on the beautiful arctic char he and his family caught in the far north . The St.Lawrence /Ottawa R.are well known for big musky and pike  as well . you might even encounter an orca whale !

Out nice and early to scope out a few new places around Gibby. Not too hot as the sun was only just rising. The wind was being, shall we say, problematic.

After nothing to show for the locations best suited for my Baitcaster, save for a hard fighting Smallie; for those curious, this young lady clocked in at just over 2lb (very likely one of this year’s early hatchlings), I moved on to my final scouting destination.

Sending out a few search baits to get an idea of what I’m working with, I came to the conclusion that a lighter touch was needed.

As one often does, I have a few “customized baits”. The one being thrown was a red dot, clear egg, with a plastic minnow threaded to appear as if it’s trying to nibble at the egg. My intention that a bass sees a 2-for-1 meal opportunity and take the bait.

As I cast towards my target, the wind blew up and completely snared my line into the bush next to me. Annoyed, I put my rod down to begin untangling the disaster around me. Pulling the line free, I lost the minnow (living up to my name), however the egg was secure. Frustrated, I tossed the hook and sinker to allow me to finish untangling. As it happened, the very obvious 4/0 circle hook going through the egg, and sinker went into the water about 5 feet in front of me.

I had just finished reclaiming my line and was about to start reeling in my line, when suddenly my drag was going as some mystery fish quickly fled the scene with my bait. Fighting it back, and the occasional glimpse made me believe a not too bad size Smallie. Upon landing this fish, I quickly discovered that it was a very young, male baby largemouth.

The fact this little fella was so small and feisty, after taking such a poorly presented bait, that it made me wonder if this was the first time he’d ever been caught?

Does anyone else think they’ve been the “first time” for one of your catches?

Verrrry interesting story ....hmmmmm , got me thinking about the few fish I have caught over the past decades that took a bare hook . It could be the bass thought that black circle hook was a worm or bug ? Bass are curious ....or very hungry sometimes . I caught a smallie on a single piece of corn as I was reeling in my carp rig . It hit the corn at the top of the water just as I was about to lift the line out near the rocky shore as you did in the photo .
Fish are like the weather ....very unpredictable !
