It may be small but it has been fishin big. Encouraged by yesterdays 25 +lbs hard fighting carp I decided to give it another go.

I set up in the late morning and was pleased to see carp feeding right in front of me.

It was not long before I had a nice one banked.

Followed by another.

Then fog burned away and the day began to really warm up. I began to get drowsy so I set the Abu on free spool and engaged the line out alarm ( clicker ) . I think i nodded off for just a bit and when I opened my eyes I could see my line beginning to move. I instinctively grabbed the rod and set on the fish. Unfortunately I did not turn the reel handle and as a result ended up with a big birds nest at one end of my line and a feisty carp on the other. The reel would not budge, so i grabbed the line. I seriously thought of just heaving on the line and if it broke well that's fate. But I decided to play the fish by hand. When i got the fish in close and by the way, not burning a finger on the line, was I ever surprised. It was a nice looking mirror. Pretty close in size to my PB. Now I got serious. The fish made a couple more runs and then with some splashing and thrashing it was in the net. I took a picture and released Mrs Splittail. It could not be a Mr. splittail right?

<a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss325/hammercarp/?action=view&current=HPIM1264600x447.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss325/hammercarp/HPIM1264600x447.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I then turned to the task of getting my reel back in action. I quickly disassembled it , one nice feature of the Abu's and decided to cut the tangled line away. Which I did and shortly after I was back in business.

Cam Brookhouse showed up and together we caught a couple more. Cam declined having his picture taken even though it was his first fish of 2012.

Cam had to leave and Randy Estabrook showed up. We fished into the afternoon but with no results. It was great to spend some time on the bank with two solid anglers and swap tales.

The fish were in the margins less than 10 m out, for any that want to give it a go.

Nice going Lorne ! That's a nice looking spot you have there and the beauty weather is a bonus . I haven't seen a mirror carp in years . I have caught a couple in Gibson many years ago & I hope they are still roaming the lake there .
