  1. My son, grandson and I went to Pt. Abino this morning to try for some bass, but absolutely nothing - not a single hit. We worked the bay out from the boat club, the point, and west of the point, but nothing. Still, it was a nice morning to get out.
  2. Biggest change I’ve noticed in product downsizing is with the loaves of bread. WAY smaller than they used to be, and the price is way higher!

    Frustrated!

You can also catch smallmouth bass in the Welland rec canal from shore. They tend to hang out just on the deep edge of the dropoff from the shallow shore edge. There are usually weed beds just on the dropoff, and thats where the bass hang out. Try floating or shallower running body baits or blade baits. I have caught them on Rapala minnow baits and small blue blade baits. if you wear a pair of rubber boots you can just stand in the water’s edge and avoid more of the shoreline brush as you cast along the dropoff to either side.
  4. Never fished for muskie, but have caught 3 over the years while fishing other species. Personal best was a 54” while fishing for walleye with 8 Lb. line in Georgian Bay outside of Penetang harbour back in 2008. Was amazed I was able to get it to the boat on that light a line. Never even had a camera with us, so only memories.
  5. I had braid one of my spinning reels for a couple of years, and never really liked it! Just replaced it w mono + fluoro leader this morning!
  6. Every year, until this year, I always fished Pt. Abino bay for smallmouth for the first 3 weeks of the season. This year the wind and rain prevented me from getting out. My ONLY go to lure there was trolling a #7 or #9 Rapala Shad Rap in perch finish - it would outfish everything else hands down! And our magic depth was always 10-15 feet of water - we would see a lot of people fishing shallower in there, but we almost always outcaught them. Caught a lot of big smallies that way, many over 4 Lbs., and personal best there was 5 3/4 Lbs.
  7. I figure I have another 5 years left in my 2009 Grand Cherokee (my second Cherokee), and the next Cherokee I buy should last me the rest of my driving years, so I have NO interest in any electric vehicle! Let the yuppies have them.
  8. I have the same type of cart for my fishing kayak in the garage, but the yak is wider than the cart. I use 2 bungee cords to hold the yak on. What I hate about my cart is that the 2 sections kept folding together whenever I went to move the yak, so I cut 2 pieces of 1x2 and cut V-notches in both ends to wedge between the two support arms of the cart. Now its very easy to wheel out of the garage whenever I need to access anything else.
  9. Thats why I like to shop CTC instead of home hardware…I can check on line how many items in stock there BEFORE I waste gas driving! And my Home Hardware is only 1/4 of the drive to CTC….I have pretty well quit shopping at HH because of lack of stock.
  10. Since none of us on this website are professional tournament anglers (at least as far as I know), then technically that makes all of us rookies! And I’m proud to say I’ve been a rookie angler for well over 65 years!! 🎣
  11. I tried to do the survey, but it froze up after 3 pages, so I quit.
  12. Squareback, same as yours. I have an extension handle for the electric, and I mounted a swivel seat base on the back seat so I could add a fold-down boat seat - much more comfortable than the bare aluminum bench seat!
  13. They are great canoes Bill. I still have mine that I bought from Harbour Craft back in 1973, and the camo paint job is still holding up. I just don't use it any more since I haven't been duck hunting in years. It works great with my old 36 Lb thrust Minn Kota electric.
  14. Been frustrated with the bass opener, and so windy I can’t take the boat out to Pt. Abino, or even my yak into the rec canal. Decided after supper tonight to fish the bank of the rec canal for a little while. Only fished for 1/2 hour, but caught a small bass and another a little under 2 Lbs. Got the small bass on a small blade bait, and the bigger one on a small Rapala Husky Jerk.
  15. No one area better than any other.

    Erie bass

Bass season opens this Saturday, and the weekend forecast looks crappy!! Hate missing out on a bass opener.
  17. Bill, you need a dedicated “tick outfit” treated for the little buggers, like my camo 2-piece rainsuit for hunting! I wear it ALL the time I am out hunting, no matter what the weather. Go to Peavy and buy the 1-litre spray bottle of Ultra Shield. Pick out a shirt and pants just for outdoor activities, spray them thoroughly with the Ultra Shield, and seal them up in a plastic bag. Just take them out of the bag and put them on when you are going out, and reseal them back in the bag as soon as you come back. The spray treatment should last at least 3 weeks before you need to retreat them if you keep them in a sealed bag, unless the clothes need washing!
  18. Its not just Covid causing these kinds of problems! I had similar lousy service issues with Pt. Colborne Marine, and finally gave up on them and, based on recommendations by members on this web site, went to Erie Marine. Had 2 different boats worked on by John there, and he gave great prompt service!!
  19. What bay are u referring to Bill?
  20. My daughter in Beamsville had a garden at her last house fenced w chicken wire to keep the bunnies out, and rabbits kept getting in to eat the lettuce. One day she happened to be looking out the window and saw a rabbit looking thru the wire at the garden...she watched it run about 15 feet back away from the wire, turn and run and jump the chicken wire into the garden!! She solved the jumper problem by putting up a double-high wire fence around the garden.
  21. This morning I managed to bag my second spring turkey: 18 Pounds, 11 Ounces Beard: 9 15/16 inch Spurs: 1 3/16 and 15/16 inches Time to put the hunting gear away and think about getting ready for fishing now.
  22. When I bought my yak I wish I had enough money free to buy the peddle type like u guys have! My Wilderness System Rage is nice, but peddling would be a lot easier for fishing than paddling!

    Open Ramps

If I had a boat like that I would have it at Sugarloaf in Pt. Colborne so I could fish Erie for pickerel every day!!
  24. Chris, its not a 365 day plan - you buy the amount you want to put on the card, and THAT AMOUNT IS GOOD FOR 365 DAYS!

I usually buy $100 at a time because quite often they will offer an additional $25 bonus for spending $100.

I just keep checking my 7/11 account on a regular basis to see the amount I have left, and top it up whenever it gets low.

I added a data plan to my phone last year ($10 per month fee) because I was texting a lot to family, and it was using up a lot of my money...now the monthly data plan covers my texting costs.
if you plan on texting a lot the data plan is worth getting...otherwise I wouldnt bother getting it

  25. Tyler, where do you usually go to fish on L. simcoe?

I guess im going to have to think of hauling my gear up there if I want to get any ice fishing this winter.
