  1. You are only allowed to use 4, 5, 6, or 7 shot. Take the gun out and try patterning it - I personally prefer #6, but every gun is different. probably best with that gun to try to stick to 25 Yd. max for your shots. The most important tip I can give you is to sit STILL!! If you have a pop-up or hub blind, then use it, and wear black inside - these blinds will help hide inadvertent movements. Good luck.
  2. The 2022 Hunting regulations are now out online for anyone interested.
  3. After reading the above, it seems like all EVs should immediately be banned as health hazards!, Wouldnt Trudeau just love that.
  4. My biggest concern about buying an EV - nobody states how long the batteries will last in them, or how much it will cost to replace them when they do need replacing! I’m betting you are looking at mega bucks to replace them. My first Cherokee lasted 16 years, and my current one is a 2009 and still in great shape…no body rust, just clearcoat peeling on bumper … intend to drive it till it dies!
  5. Just stand on the upwind shore, put a small square of paper on the top shaft of a pencil bobber, and you can sail your bait across the whole area!
  6. I had the same mutli-lens system 35mm. They were neat cameras to use, but I was always very picky with what photos I choose to take because you knew each one was going to cost you money to get developed. Now with digital its a case of…who cares…shoot away….we can delete them later!
  7. Back in the early 1970s we caught one or two in the east end of lake Erie at Ft. Erie while bass fishing, never realizing that they were a rare species. Just thought it an odd colour variant of a normal pickerel.
  8. Save the 3 body baits with the big lips for pickerel!!
  9. They have shown up in several areas of Ontario, starting in 2014 in Windsor - Wheatly, Dundas, St. Catharines and Toronto. Look a lot like ordinary big earthworms, but the collar ring goes all the way around their body.
  10. Just read about this new invasive species showing up in parts of Ontario, including St. Catherines. They might be a bonus for fishermen as they might be a more active bait to put on a hook. Bill, better start checking all those worms showing up in your back yard!!
  11. Had to teach a course in Dunnville today. On the way there, the gas price in Chambers corners and the station by the 2x4 restaurant were both at $2.05!!! Yet Dunnville stations were $1.75…
  12. Just cleared out 2 1/2 inches off my driveway.
  13. I bought a trolling motor bracket to put on my kayak this spring. Never thought about the boater licence requirement, but I’ve had the card since it came out (and always thought the course was a total waste of time!). TW65, if you are getting a mounting bracket for your kayak, be careful of thrust ratings on some brackets….I found some are rated only for 30 Lb thrust maximum! My old 70s era Minn Kota is a 30 Lb., and I have been thinking of upgrading to a 55 Lb kayak electric if I find it isn’t enough thrust. I bought a Railblaza motor mount for the kayak, as it was rated the top end kayak bracket.
  14. I remember those rods being advertised, but never knew anyone who had one. Always thought the design was a neat idea, because no guides to get damaged transporting them.
  15. Got to see my Dr. In person last week for the first time in over 2 years for a physical. Gotta go back for a follow-up in 3 weeks. Had to get bloodwork done, so went downstairs to lab, no one in waiting room, and told no walk-ins. When I asked her if I could book an appt. she paused for a few seconds, said “wait a minute”, came back out 2 minutes later, took me in and did my bloodwork - I got lucky!! 😉 someone else walked in as she was seeing me, and got told no walk-ins.
  16. Not a name I know Bill. But then I just used to hit the ranges early in the mornings so I could have them to myself for quiet shooting times. Much easier to concentrate on accuracy when no one else is there!
  17. Bill, you are thinking of the Niagara Regional 110yd range next to Silverdale. Millers own Silverdale, and they have ranges out to 200 yards. I used to be a member there until they decided to double the membership fee, then I quit there. I belong to the Dunnville District Hunters & Anglers now - great club and much cheaper yearly fees! They have a 20 yd restricted range, a 50 and 100 yd ranges, a trap range, and 3-D archery shoots in the summer. They also run a walleye hatchery every year, and have perch dinners at the club.
  18. Somebody on the Weather Network really goofed (at least I hope they goofed)! Look at the nighttime low they have forecasted for me on Feb. 14th.
  19. I think they are members only now - don’t think they are allowing non-members on weekends like they used to.

Had to get the blower out this morning - almost a foot deep in driveway.

I can vouch for the big sized ones personally! Back in the early 80s I had brought a friend with me to Pt Credit on the last day of the derby. He was a saltwater fisherman, and, when hearing me talk about the size of the chinook, showed up that day with a saltwater surf spinning rig loaded with 500 yards of 40 Lb mono - I thought he was going overboard with that rig! His uncle was a good fishing buddy of Lou Eppinger (the inventor of the Daredevil spoon), and my buddy brought a tackle box full of Lou’s experimental spoon designs. He tied on a blue coloured spoon to try. Around 10:30 am he tied into a chinook that almost emptied his reel in the first 30 seconds, with the line streaming off a screaming reel in the air off towards the horizon. He fought that fish for almost 15 minutes, bringing it near my boat 3 times. I had a 14 ft fibreglass Arkansaw Traveller w a 40 Hp at the time - fairly wide boat. At the last pass of the fish just by the back of the boat, we could see the head just past my left boat back, and still see the tail out on the right side!! Huge!! The fish finally jumped completely out of the water, did a barrel roll in the air, and cut my buddies 40 Lb line on its gill plate! I will never forget that monster! The winning derby fish that year was a 39 Lb chinook, and this thing was almost double that size. My cousin and I had caught several 20+ Lb fish earlier that year, but they were tiny compared to that one.

    smelt

It wasn’t just good in the 50s Bill. In the early 70s I had a 20’ seine net, and I still remember one night in the Niagara at Ft. Erie - a buddy and I made 1 sweep with the net, filled 4 green garbage bags, and still emptied over 1/2 a net full back into the river!! We spent a lot of the rest of the evening driving around giving pails full to friends, then 2 + hours cleaning smelt!! After that night we decided we wouldn’t ever take that much again!.,
  23. I tried the northern section of the rec canal this morning. Nothing, not even a nibble, and no marks on the sonar either in 2 hours. And the snow was a female dog; I should have got my collapsible ski base out for my hut!
  24. Seems whoever was closest to Lake Ontario got the most out of this one. We varied between 18-22 inches, depending on area around house.
  25. 18 inches minimum in my area….don’t like having to get the big snowblower out unless I really have to, but sure needed it today!! Now we all sit and wait for a couple of days until the plows do our side streets.
