  1. No, John used to work for Pt Colborne Marine, but got fed up with them, and set up his own business, and I can understand why - they kept my boat sitting in their yard for 4 weeks, then ripped me off on a Merc repair for over $500 - said “it was fixed”, but it was exactly the same after I tested it in the water after!! I tell people to NEVER go to them!!
  2. We have a young fox in our neighbourhood. Saw it trotting down sidewalk twice in a week during the day. i like seeing them around because I know there won’t be any mice around with the fox present. People need to learn that cats are INDOOR pets, and should NOT BE LET OUTSIDE because they kill for fun, and kill far more small birds and animals than a fox!
  3. if you are in need of a motor mechanic, John at Erie Marine east of Welland is great.
  4. I have absolutely NO trust in CTC mechanics!! Stems from many years ago when I took our van in to get an emission test done, and they told me my catalytic converter was shot and needed replacing…wanted over $750 to replace it. Didn’t trust that report, said “no, not today”, and took it down the street to Zorro muffler and had them look at it. Zorro said the catalytic converter was fine, just the heat shield over it rusting out. Ever since then I have never taken any vehicle to CTC for any kind of repair work!
  5. Just installed this Lowrance Hook2 Downscan and Marcum lithium on my Wilderness Systems Ride yak, but haven’t got out to try it out yet. Had been all set too buy the 5” model, but when I went to place my order on Cabelas I found the 7” on sale for only $30 more, so couldn’t resist the bigger screen! Yak came with the black base stating “Lowrance Ready”, and it was. The black base its mounted on lifts right out just by loosening the round ball at front (bottom in first photo), with the transducer mounted underneath, as shown in 2nd photo.
  6. 2011 for me. Just sitting here today waiting for UPS to deliver my new Lowrance Hook 2 fishfinder for my kayak so I can get it mounted.
  7. Try using his phone as a bass lure…may just catch a bigmouth on it!!
  8. Bill, I learned a long time ago to always have at least one more backup hard drive in my computer, and copy all files I want to keep to it on a regular basis. its not a case of IF the drive or computer will die, its just WHEN its going to happen! Many years ago I put a new hard drive in my computer, spent 6 days installing Windows and all my software, and a week later the new drive failed - had to install another drive and start installing everything all over again. Learn my lesson after that happened! I upgraded my computer a year ago when Microsoft quit supporting Windows 7 Professional, and went whole hog on the new one - 4 hard drives in it. My main drive is a 1 terrabyte chip on the motherboard, and the other 3 are solid state hard drives. I even had the computer store set it up as a RAID system where the computer constantly backs everything up automatically to one of the solid state drives all the time, and I still back up important files to the other 2 drives on a regular basis.
  9. Neat photo Bill …a beautiful sunset!
  10. I don’t even have my cell phone set up so people can leave a message if I don’t answer - makes life less annoying that way!
  11. Sadly, not going to make it out. 😞 On Paxlovid, and still have 1 1/2 days left of it to take. And now my wife tested positive on Saturday…… That stuff does work thou…hoping by later in the week to get out.
  12. Bill, Possibly at family Easter dinner for 14 people at our house Sunday. Everyone in family except 20 month old granddaughter was fully vaccinated, and no one has had Covid up till now. However, one son-in-law went to work Tuesday morning feeling fine, and came home feeling miserable - he tested and was positive. Then We tested Wednesday morning, and I tested positive, but wife is still negative. Mild symptoms so far, so hopefully I can get out later next week.
  13. Looks like I won’t be making it out for opening day after all - I tested positive for Covid yesterday. 😩
  14. I always make it out for the opener.
  15. Glad Tyler was able to get us access again to this site! And I’m on the telemarketer/scammer/con hit list today - so far I have had 7 cell phone calls, and my wife has had 5 so far today on her cell phone. I never answer any call from a number I don’t recognize, but when I try checking by calling the number back, every one of them comes up with a message saying “this number not in service”, so definitely scammers at work!
  16. Yea, I’ve got access again!! thanks Tyler!
  17. Sounds like the garages in the 5 houses I owned prior to this one. And we’ve been here 11 years now, and the past winter was the first time our car actually got put in the garage for the winter (but only because I sold my boat).
  18. Guess I’m old school cause I’ve changed a lot of tires over the years, and never own a torque wrench to do it, and none came loose, fell off, or had any problems. I assumed Bill would supervise any kids he hired
  19. Bill why don’t you see if you have any high school kid neighbours and offer them some money to do it for you? Never buy snows for my 4x4 Cherokee down here.
  20. Good luck on your first turkey season! I did the same…took the course, but didn’t start hunting turkeys until I retired, and could go out hunting during the week. Got hooked on it real quick, and its my favourite kind of game to hunt.
  21. Thanks to both of you. I have been looking at the lithium batteries on Amazon, and wondering if they were suitable. Had some lower back problems this past weekend, and am on muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories right now, but when this clears up will be going to the family farm to get my yak out of winter storage, then buying the sonar to get it equipped for the summer.
  22. Yea Bill thats the one I posted about back on March 15. I figure we can all do our part by feeding them to the fish on a hook!
  23. My yak is a Wilderness Systems, and i bought 2 of their rod holders when i got the yak. They tilt and swivel on a ball head. They are about 9” in length. I keep them fairly low, so my rod tips are maybe 2 feet off the water. Tyler, where did you get your battery? I will need one for a new fishfinder.
  24. I have a pair of track mounted rodholders, and When trolling with 2 rods I cross them across in front of me in an x pattern so I can still paddle easily, and it makes it easier to see any hits. As for fishfinders, I have been using a real old Lowrance Eagle portable for many years. I want to upgrade it this year, and was seriously thinking of buying the Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv. However, I saw a video that changed my mind. Apparently Lowrance invented the downscan sonar and patented it, so no other company can use it. Garmin and Hummingbird claim they downscan, but dont actually spot fish fully directly under your boat because they fudge their “down” scan by overlapping 2 side scans together, so they may not detect all fish directly below. I have now decided to buy the Lowrance Hook2 5x Splitshot with true downscan capability.
