  1. It seems like the canvas tent crowd has had success using borax in solution to remove mildew stains. you could give that a try. That stuff is cheaper than dirt.
  2. What type of material is it smerch? I’ve had good luck on vinyl with diluted mean green and one of those finger scrub brushes. however, I’m not sure that would be good on canvas. Whatever you use, expect to retreat the material with 303 aerospace protectant to make the water bead off.
  3. Hey smerch. Why not weld the part? Assuming the adjuster is metal?
  4. Thanks for the info Rippin, thats what i thought.
  5. Good luck to anyone closing the season off. Also, Just a reminder to complete your mnr surveys.
  6. Hey David, if a kayak mount is not feasible, is a light canoe an alternative? Something like a sportspal ? They are really wide and stable and come with a mount for an electric trolling motor. i’ve got an older one that i use for duck hunting and really like it. I think it weighs about 40-50 lbs. it not a kayak for sure, but it goes pretty good with an electric.
  7. Thanks Darryl! I need some.
  8. Way to stick with it Gene. Congratulations!
  9. Hi everyone. I’ve wanted to do this hunt for quite a while, however, i don’t have a bird dog. i realize i’m too late for this year, but i’m wanting to start planning for next year. I’m just wondering if anyone else has real experience with this hunt and wonder if a dogless hunter has any real chance of success. Any real life experience and suggestions would be appreciated!
  10. That shoot througn hole is going to be on my radar for the next blind i buy.
  11. Hey guys. i’m just cleaning up the fur shed and I had a few coon skins and a mink that i held back from the auction because i made some small cuts on them when fleshing. They would have been marked down as damaged and i would have got even less for them so….. Instead i sewed the damage up and tanned them. if anyone is interested, i’m selling them for 15 bucks each. They are mostly 2-3x size and nice colour for the most part. one pelt is normally enough material for a hat. The rear haunches are normally used for that purpose. I have one small one and one missing a tail, so i’ll combine those to make sure there is enough material. the mink is ten bucks. in the picture below they have just been oiled. It normally takes a few days for drying and fluffing up. pm me if your interested. thanks.
  12. Well, I got it done today in about 15 minutes. I was wandering around the house this morning trying to figure out what to do today with the wet weather and said “screw it, @genec said they like the rain. i’m going to go sit in in my blind.” Got out of the house at about 9:15 and was set up and in the blind by 9:45. Waited about 5 minutes and hit the call with a few clucks and a purr. A gobbler sounded off right behind me. I figured he was close so i gave a few soft purrs and he came walking right into the decoys. I made the shot with the crossbow at 20 yards and he went straight down. Game over. 22 lbs, call it 9 3/4” beard although one strand may be 10, and 1 3/16 spurs. thanks Gene!
  13. I could have taken this guy at about 15 yards. I figured i’d hold out for a bit older bird. They are exciting to see real close!
  14. Thanks for the info. I’m hopefully going to try that this year.
  15. Just an FYI…i came across this article today and thought others may be interested. https://www.niagarathisweek.com/news/council/west-lincoln-joins-list-of-ontario-municipalities-allowing-sunday-gun-hunting/article_cad2815b-daf1-5060-a3c3-70e58e4e9951.html#tncms-source=article-nav-next
  16. Hey @mooseslayer what is the process you use for wet brine?
  17. I’ve never tried cooking a whole bird before, but for breasts i found a strange but great receipe online. marinate for 12 hours in mountain dew. Dry them off and coat with yellow mustard, then apply a dry rub - i used texmex seasoning. Then on the bbq for about 30 mins or internal temp above 165. Plate it with rice and enjoy with a nice beer.
  18. Congratulations. Nice bird! no luck for me, they were gobbling all around me but i only saw a hen within a 100 yards.
  19. Well, its that time. i pulled the turkey vest out and cleaned and checked the decoys. Blind is in good shape and still standing. My Calls are also ready to go. I’m ready to roll tomorrow morning! Who else is ready?
  20. I’ve heard similar stories about mechanical broadheads not performing properly. I’ve shot quite a few deer with plain old 3 blade muzzy broadheads and never had an issue finding a deer. For me and deer, I’ll stick to what works. Just not sure about turkeys. On another topic, isn’t it early for turkeys to be calling alot? It this rate they’ll be all gobbled out by season opener. 🙂
  21. I got out yesterday to cut fallen timber and the turkeys seemed to be everywhere and were gobbling like crazy. @genec Isn’t it early for that?
  22. I use the concentrate and mix up spray bottles to spray my clothes. lasts years. google Permethrin SFR 36.8%
  23. Answered my own question 🙂 other sites say aim where the base of the wing attaches to the body.
  24. I’m not sure what weather is good or bad. This is only my second year going after them. I got my first gobbler last year on a quiet morning with a little light rain so that matches what fishingking said above. Also, scent control is not required for turkeys like it is for deer. i took the course and passed my test for hunting them when they were first introduced and a huntable population was established many years ago but last year was my first hunt.i enjoyed it so much I wondered why i waited so long. last year i used my shotgun. This year i may try with my bow. To those who use a bow, what is your preferred aiming point?
  25. I took a walk yesterday during the gap in the weather and counted more than 50 turkeys in farmers fields. They seem to have made it through the winter with no problems. i’m looking forward to the hunt this year!
