  1. Who’s planning on going out this year?
  2. Wow, those bases look really stout. That is a likely a brute of a deer.
  3. If you go with a compound bow, be prepared to do alot of practice to become proficient with it. Most folks just don’t have the time or location to do that required amount of practice. The new releases and such take alot of the error-prone actions away from the shooter so it is easier than it used to be, but time and much practice are still required. If you go with a crossbow, especially an excalibur, much of that practice is no longer required and you can concentrate more on the hunting rather than the shooting. Once you sight it in you’ll be bang on and busting arrows soon unless you shoot at a different bullseye. The game becomes judging distance. I’ve done both. the compound requires more shooting skill but i’ve shot more deer up close with a crossbow than i ever would have with a compound. Either way you owe it to the animal to become procient with whatever tool you choose to use. good luck and happy hunting!
  4. I agree. It looks like they are still using it. Too bad it wasnt open to the public.
  5. Wow, i didn’t know that Dave. I thought the rifle range had been shut down years ago?
  6. Heres the link to the quick 4 question survey https://www.letstalkgrimsby.ca/discharge-of-firearms-and-bows-by-law-open-house
  7. Just an fyi to anyone in the grimsby area, the debate about firearms discharge in the area is restarting-again. Personally, i thought they had a great model in the last bylaw, but that was recinded likely due to shooting waterfowl over the lake in close proximity to housing. A public meeting is scheduled for march 1 from 6-8pm. An online survey is also asking for feedback. the links are below. https://www.grimsby.ca/en/news/open-house-discharge-of-firearms-and-bows.aspx
  8. Wow smerch, that thing is a man eater! congratulations
  9. Hey smerch. We went through this with my mom. They basically drew a clock and asked her what time it was showing. in her case she could see but could not interpret what she was seeing. She failed the test. She should not have been on the road and we knew that, so the test was our way “out”, as it wasn’t us taking her license away it was the government. no worries, you’ve got this. however, I’m starting to question the size of the fish your posting on here. Lol - just kidding.
  10. Nice catch smerch. Now you have to thank all your sponsors. “i would like to thank woodstream for their fine line of rat eradicators, dollar general for their great line of affordable canned sardine bait,…” 🤣
  11. Hey Coyotehunter i draw the line at rats. Lol.
  12. Oh, they were fat bubba. 24 to 27 lbs each and as fat as an opera singer.
  13. Just and fyi, Rats and mice can’t burp. As long as they are outside, put bait traps with baking soda and corn meal and a little bit of icing sugar in areas that they will find it but not exposed to the weather. Your rats and mice will eat the cornmeal and sugar and the soda will cause them to gas up and die and they’ll be gone from around your place within a few weeks. I used to have rats around my place, now no sign in any snow of anything around my place for quite awhile. DO NOT do this inside. They will stink up your house as they decompose.
  14. As i said in the earlier post, the underwool is just crazy thick and full this year. Now, i did wait until they were prime before harvesting this year but i can’t remember seeing this quality. check this out. Thats almost an inch and a half of wool.
  15. Thanks guys. I always find working with fur is a nice way to pass some time. I made the first for my son. He and his wife liked the first one so much I made the second for her. I just have to do the final fit-and-sew before i line it. the first one had the tail on top, but the second is more traditional with the tail on bottom. I think i may change the first. Cpt, I suppose i would sell a few if there is a demand. But, To be honest, I wouldn’t know what to charge right now. I’m looking for a good source of liner material and i don’t want to use fabric. Leather/suede is traditional but is really expensive. i would rather reuse material that i can source inexpensively, or better yet, free. Old leather couches and jackets are a good source and usually have enough good sections to do alot of hats.
  16. Well, the days are colder and its dark sooner so whats a guy to do besides watch tv. I harvested a pile of prime 3xl raccoon this year, and the auction prices don’t look too good right now so….i figured why not try something different. A few of the coon were yellow and because the market doesn’t like those as much, they were the first candidates for the dip. i acid-tanned them and sewed up some hats. First time trying it out and they turned out pretty good i think. The underwool this year is outstanding! Its crazy thick and full. just have to sew the leather liners now and they are good to go.
  17. I’ve been out trapping and i found a few older ones along the way. May be early still, although i have a trail cam pic of a one sided deer from november so i guess you never know.
  18. Seems the whole truth is starting to come out about this senseless shooting a few days ago. https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/outraged-ontarios-top-cop-demands-bail-change-after-officers-killing?__vfz=medium%3Dstandalone_content_recirculation_with_ads To summarize, career criminal, out on bail 6 months ago, missed parole and wanted, carrying and discharging a firearm after being prevented from owning one based on his prior police altercation. possibly(likely) a stolen truck, flees back to the ‘rez where he gets protection. Unbelievable. Only in Canada.
  19. There you go JW, now i’m sure you’re going to get a nice polyester shirt sent to you with your name on the back and a big noma and Rose Sucheck brand logo on the front. No Busch beer logo though. Afterall, no-one wants to be caught dead with advertising that swill.😎
  20. For the guys that still have tags to fill:
  21. Nice one jwl1. He’s a good one. Now you have to thank your sponsors. 😀
  22. Yup, she is fighting hard. Good on her! I wish our tool of an MP in niagara would fight for us as well, but he’s got his head stuck to far up trudeaus ass. As a side note, the call-to-action form is back up and running on the OFAH site. All hunters and sport shooters, please use that service and send a note to your mp. it also goes to a number of senators.
  23. Whoa, thats a big coyote! 60 lb’ers are really big - 72 may be an eastern wolf.
  24. yea smerch, its a big dog for sure. I wish there was bounty on them, then they would be worth going after. With canada goose no longer buying, the last i heard was 5 usd per pelt. I can’t drive my truck for that price. As it stands now, i trap them off only because i like hunting deer. A pack of them can decimate a deer herd pretty quick. P.S. is anyone else finding dead raccoons out on their hunt properties? i’m finding a few dead ones, all with signs of diarrea which is a symtom of distemper. None of the ones i’ve trapped off have shown any such signs, but there are plenty of them around this year.
