  1. Hmm mustard? My wife started putting that on spareribs before cooking and I thought she had gone crazy but turned out pretty good after basting after grilled with BBQ sauce. In the unlikely chance that I get a turkey this year I will likely deep fry it, but this recipe looks intriguing.

Hey guys, trail cams been out for a week, walked the property haven’t seen any turkey tracks. Went out Sunday when it was windy and cold… called. No roosted birds no gobbles. Trail cams been out with no sign of turkey. Let’s talk options. It’s not looking good so far.

Picture of property at first glance doesn't look overly promising, no turkey sign, no pictures, unless I'm missing something I'd say move on to greener pastures.

Surf , we took cans of Koch's Golden Anniversary moose hunting and none of the other 5 complained about the taste . Old Milwaukie wasn't much different but the price was right . On one trip we had 5 cases of 24 canned beer in my van and got caught at the border coming back to Canada near Thunder Bay and they look all the beer !  lol  I had a micky of Yukon Jack that the label said "made in Canada" and they let me keep it . I bought it on the US side !  ha !

Apparently our Koch's beer wasn't always liked by some ....

LOL, yes one man's food is another's poison! I don't think I've had the pleasure of Koch's beer. Were those "tasting notes" printed on the can? "Tastes worse than it smells, musty, musky murky, not unlike swamp water" LOL

Terrible of those guys to take your beer, Smerch! Didn't mind cheap beer but always stuck to Five Star back in the day.

  4. Made a run across the boarder last week, filled up the Yukon and 6 Jerry Cans, figured I saved $105, plus $25 for case of beer! Smerch, I remember picking up MIlwaukee's Best back in the day at Tops for $4.99 per case, back in the late 80's early 90's. Nasty stuff though, I don't think they actually brewed it, just mix water, beer flavouring, some alcohol, then into the can!

Also picked up a chocolate bar at duty free, couldn't resist..lol!

  5. Hey Smerch, I helped my father with this last year when he turned 84. The hardest part of the test for him was drawing the face of the clock with numbers and the hands pointing to a set time of 10 minutes after 11. We practiced that before the test, he actually found it difficult to do that initially but after practicing a few times no problem. Most kids would draw a cell phone and write 11:10 on the front of it. lol  You'll do fine. Unfortunately it does cause a lot of stress.

  6. Hey Smerch, sorry to hear you are in this predicament. I would be very hesitant to let any of their representatives in your home or to sign anything provided, without having a lawyer review it first. In my experience anyone that wants to see you face to face is because they want to sell you something, or talk you into something. Just playing devils advocate but they could agree to reduce the monthly cost if you re-sign  a new agreement with them and in doing so you could possibly lose out on the class action lawsuit and be locked in for an even longer period as an example. These parasitic losers prey on decent, trusting people. They are one step away from the lottery scammers, grand children scammers etc. Too lazy, stupid and immoral to make an honest living, so if they are coming out in person it is likely to try to pressure you into something to their benefit.

You might already know this but I just took a peek at that class action lawsuit and it states under the FAQ section that you might qualify for a lease cancellation, and if you don't qualify for a total cancellation then at least a reduced buyout option along with a cash settlement following the claim process, so it might be worth holding out a bit longer as it looks like it is pretty far along.

If no one has any direct experience with having dealt with this group I'd be willing to do a bit more research this week if you want.

A couple years ago I witnessed Enercare tell my father that he needed to replace his air conditioner at a cost of $4500, the service agent didn't even look at it, he just played with the thermostat and then looked at the furnace, then just said based on it's age it was finished and needed to be replaced. I asked what his service contract he's been paying for covered and he said diagnostics, and service, so I told him to run diagnostics on the unit like he is supposed to. The guy was annoyed, I went out with him while he hooked up testing gas, and it was leaking at a contol valve, which a new O ring fixed  along with an $800 coolant re-charge My dad was ready to sign up for a new air conditioner on the spot, trusting the guy. He was just lucky I happened to be there, and they are viewed as a somewhat reputable.

  7. That is the first time that I heard the full story as well. I didn’t realize that they made it out into the Niagara. River and down to the intakes. Hard to imagine that they wouldn’t have realized there was issue as soon as entering the water having dove their before. Sad for sure.

  8. I was on a mission to catch a steelhead on a fly rod one year about 10 years or so ago and targeted Caledonia dam. I was there 5 or 6 times before I finally caught one, not a very efficient way to catch them but was a blast having one on. Once I caught one on the fly I crossed that off the list. I have caught lots of Rainbow Parr in some tributaries of the Grand while fishing for Brown's so there must be some natural reproduction. There is supposed to be a good run at Paris but have never fished there.

  9. With a break in action at school my son was able to make it to deer camp in NY this past weekend. Got down on Friday afternoon out in stand by just before 4, it was rainy and misty so not the best conditions, but just before last light two bucks crept out into the cut we were overlooking, a six pointer and eight pointer. Both were in long grass up to their shoulders with some bushes mixed in. The larger of the two was behind the six pointer, as soon as the eight pointer presented a shot he took it. The buck jumped and twisted around and ran off to the right into thick bush. We waited about 20 minutes before getting down. Looked for about 15 minutes for blood but because of the rain couldn’t find any sign whatsoever so started a slow search through the brush after about 45 minutes finally found it in a small stream tucked behind an undercut bank. . The .243 did its job, taking out its heart but still managed to run a good 80 yards or so. To the say the least we were happy to find it!

i shot a small five pointer on Sunday morning to break my season long losing streak. Did a lot of hunting this fall but seeing my son take that 8 pointer was definitely the highlight!

Hi everyone, new to the forum here. I was just wondering who people are using to have their deer butchered in the area. I found this forum through a post from last year but I was wondering if people this year are still using the same services/if they are available.

I’m located in Thorold but I’m hunting at a family farm in Hamilton area starting tomorrow for the rest of the week and want to be prepared if I’m lucky. Ideally I’d bring it back this way but I’m open to options near Hamilton as well.

    Thanks!

I've been using Gourmet Meats, on Hwy 6, in Mount Hope for years. They make the best pepperettes and sausage I have ever had and reasonably priced. If you happen to bag a wall hanger, they will also cape it out for you. Best to call ahead if dropping off a deer so they are expecting you.

This year our group in the controlled hunt decided to butcher ourselves and try our hand at sausage and pepperttes.  We have to butcher the deer shot in N.Y. to bring back accross the border, will be bringing some of the N.Y deer meat to Gourmet Meat for some pepperettes shortly.

I've certainly been putting the time in this year, but I haven't been seeing any shooters. I've got plenty of does and fawns and I've seen one small six-pointer out of range. There's a fork that begged me three times to kill it and I regret passing up now. Last year I plinked an eight-pointer on my second sit (Oct 6) and I had my choice of him or his twin. There were so many deer to choose from but not this year for some reason.

This weekend us archers got ripped off for the weather. 7° c and I'm dressed for January and I'm wet and the deer are bedded down. Only three days this year have I not seen a deer while hunting and although I did not go out this morning, I'm expecting more of the same as I did yesterday. Tonnes of squirrels.and Bluejays.

I can't hunt afterwork since the time change so after today I'm looking at 2 weeks off and that leaves only a couple weekends left. It sure would have been nice to get a little sunshine this weekend but that's hunting I guess.

Good luck today. Your season temporarily ends at 5:12pm.

It's too easy to pass up the does and small bucks at the beginning of the season. Just like going to a bar, everyone passes on the ugly girl at the beginning of the night but everyone is fighting over her at last call!

Had Helix 7 GPS and DI, tried using the DI display and turned it off, found it was a gimmick.🙈

It still works OK but fishing 10 to 13 Hour days the screen was melting in the sun, they say it's because using lighter Gage wire.

Was at a seminar and found out the most important thing is use 8 Gage wire direct from the battery and as short as possible.

Now I have a Helix 9 sonar with GPS has 2 Micro card slots for Navionics and LakeMaster cards, that's all you need.

Don't get hung up on the Bells and whistles.

I found the Humminbirds very user friendly, you can turn off a lot of those display screens.

But that's my opinion, got lots of money, buy those bells&whistles.👍😀

Interesting point about the heavier gauge wire. I've been having similar issues with my Humminbird with screen at corners and edges. It will often cycle on/off when I restart the engine which is hard on the electronics not to mention, annoying. After doing a bit of research it looks like they are very sensitive to voltage fluctuation. Will be upgrading wire in the spring to see if that helps. My unit is 12 years old and I don't know or try to use half the features and it still serves me well for my use at least.

Got a person at MNRF. Basspro is full of doo-doo. Second year in a row they gave me bad info. 89 still exists!

Basspro staff are a good example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. I've overheard some pretty dubious conversations with customers over the years in their hunting dept. experts on everything! No different than SAIL
