    How was the garbage?

last time I was there that side was clean but the other side was a disaster. I guess the guy that was volunteering his time emptying the garage cans isn’t doing it anymore. I didn’t see any garbage cans around so now people just make a dump site and expect someone else to clean it up. Yup the city will clean it up and also put up no trespassing signs. I can see that spot disappearing very soon.
wish I lived closer  I’d take on the cleaning up after others.

Tyler you are 100% right. I bet more than half of the spots I used to fish as a kid are now NO TRESPASSING, and the region is just looking for reasons to ban other good shore spots. I can see down the road real difficulty finding a good spot unless you have a boat or a yak

After 3 yrs. of not going to our beloved trailer at Deseronto, we are selling it . Thanks to the strict rules of the c19 we lost 2 years and last year as well due to home issues.

We got a call today from our dear friend at the trailer park that there was a leak where a piece of the siding was loose and the floor will need to be repaired .They fixed the siding for us .

I just got my drivers license after 6 months of applying  and my wife has to wait until July to take the test then wait agin for the plastic licence . That would put us into August to visit our trailer .We have paid all fees for the past 3 years and fully paid until October this year .

And since I don't like boating locally , I have no need for my boat so it is going up for sale too .  We are both 80 and we have to go through the license crap again in another 18 months .

Not worth the aggravation thanks to the Ontario government.

Thankfully , there are many local fishing spots within a 15 minute drive ....hoping to out a couple times per week .

Out of curiosity why do you not enjoy local boating ?

  3. In January of this year a Supreme Court Judge ruled that it is unconstitutional to remove homeless people from these encampments without providing them shelter or other accommodations first. The Police and the city are basically handcuffed for fear of lawsuits etc...what a world

Fished the river yesterday and managed a 4man limit. Fishing was kinda tough if it wasn’t for the “hole in the wall” and a black worm with chartreuse tail. That worm took 22 of the fish. Seen some Americans using them and catching 4 fish in a couple minutes right beside us so we put the same bait on and it was non stop for a couple drifts. Water was dirty maybe 10-20”viz depending where you were (Canadian waters). a lot of small fish. The winning fish was 26 1/2” usually it’s over 30”. We had 22 1/2” but wasn’t good enough for top 10. I believe there was 130 boats entered. Great day to be on the water.

Back to the topic of turkeys - a neighbour across the street from me here in Welland showed me a photo today of a big jake turkey in his back yard yesterday, and we are inside Welland at least 3/4 mile from any open rural area! No idea how that bird ended up here in a subdivision.

    That's an easy hunt !

I'm hoping to get out but I'm also hoping to get on the water in my boat that hasn't seen the water in two years!

Mechanical issues or just no time? This wind had definitely postponed perch at least another week. Will be mud again for a while

  7. There was a small store in Fort Erie right on the upper river called "Fishin Niagara" . He shut down around Covid and also has never reopened. I went to a fishing show in Buffalo New York a few weeks ago. The lures were significantly cheaper but once you tacked on the 40% exchange there was zero difference in price

So the lifetime package will update whenever they add another lure?

Yep I believe it's a $100 for lifetime and everytime you go on the app it will download all the new lures and their dive charts. You can also save all your favorites for quick reference

Did you buy a package or just a few that you use?

I  bought the lifetime membership. By the time I added up every potential lure I may use it only made sense to buy the lifetime package.

The app makes it so easy. You determine how deep you want to be and it tells you how much line to let out based on how fast you’re going. Super easy.

That app is great, just very expensive

Glad to see another hunter on the site, I've shot both compound and crossbows. As time moved on - work/kids/wife etc. I've found myself losing the free time needed to shoot, shoot, shoot a compound bow enough to be lethal. No one wants to be wounding animals, especially bow hunters. I would recommend the crossbow and it don't get much better than an Excalibur, easy to change strings, no cam wheels or anything to really go wrong. Been using one Excalibur model or another for 25 years now, scopes are good and accurate and can shoot left handed if you need to - try that with a compound bow. But you should get a hunting spot before you make any purchase, it aint easy. Most of the 'open minded' landowners already have someone on their property and the rest are dead against the idea of hunting. Good luck, its a tough decision

As someone who took up hunting later in life,  I found this a real challenge.  There is essentially no crown land in Niagara, and finding a good spot to hunt took me years, and dozens of unsuccessful door knocks. I now have a great spot to hunt deer and coyote but one day I know this spot will come to an end.

Hey guys and Thankyou for your time and help I appreciate it! Have anyone of you had any success or hunted with anyone that has had success with a compound? I can totally understand the pros for a crossbow that makes sense in my mind. The one downside to a crossbow is that I currently don’t have anywhere to hunt deer locally and have no hunt groups so the only time I would use it is to hunt whereas I can shoot the compound at HGC and the Parkdale archery club 10 min from my house regularly? Thanks so much again for your hospitality and time!

I don't think you will have any problems killing deer with a compound bow if you are practicing on a regular basis. I think that's the main problem is  most people don't practice all year, and then think come deer season they can make precise accurate shots.

If you go with a compound bow, be prepared to do alot of practice to become proficient with it. Most folks just don’t have the time or location to do that required amount of practice. The new releases and such take alot of the error-prone actions away from the shooter so it is easier than it used to be, but time and much practice are still required.
If you go with a crossbow, especially an excalibur, much of that practice is no longer required and you can concentrate more on the hunting rather than the shooting. Once you sight it in you’ll be bang on and busting arrows soon unless you shoot at a different bullseye. The game becomes judging distance.

I’ve done both. the compound requires more shooting skill but i’ve shot more deer up close with a crossbow than i ever would have with a compound.

Either way you owe it to the animal to become procient with whatever tool you choose to use.

    good luck and happy hunting!

100% agree Mark. We have a hunt group of 3 people. Me and one guy use a crossbow, the 3rd uses a compound bow. Every year the guy with the compound bow is tracking and losing deer as a result of bad shots. I fully admit I don't practice as much as I should, but my shots are deadly accurate with my excalibur. Haven't lost a deer yet, and they all drop fast. I will stick with my crossbow. Plus way easier on my arms and shoulders!
