  1. Oh so true! Just like venturing solo on the ice. Just not the biggest fan any more.
  2. Warmest Xmas I remember was 82' or 83'. I was up in the Soo then, and for 3 days it was in the mid 60's Christmas eve to Boxing Day. We paid for it right after. The lake effect snows started and we got 4-6 inches every night for the next 10 days..
  3. We used then on the runners for winter camping dogsleds as a scout project years back. Worked great.
  4. I've got 3000 jigs to finish before i shut down for a few days.
  5. Weather has not been too conducive to fishing. annnnd I've been busy trying to finish filling the Christmas list
  6. Pic from a previous post in that topic.
  7. Was raw and snowy yesterday, but the fish were biting out on the Welland R. I can do this all year. Sadly, I've probably destroyed at least a dozen Rudd this fall.
  8. Fishing the past month has been great for chasing pannies. Lots of big perch, gills and crappie in the 12Mile and Welland systems. The bass had to keep after getting the hook caught in his gills.
  9. I saw that one as it swam away and it was huuuuuge!
  10. Might have got into a fight with a trolling motor?
  11. Got me a nice surprise on the river today. Somewhere tween 36-40".. Caught on my fave pattern of spinnerbait.
  12. I'd say sure. Only problem is I only know at the last minute if I have time to go out. Been so busy making tackle.
  13. Fish are starting to put on the feed. Had a couple of great afternoons.
  14. I find, as we age, that mobility and space are very important. So much more comfortable in a pontoon. Drawback is the vessel's manouverability and poor trolling capability.
  15. It really has been a while since I was last here. Life has been crazy busy the past 2 months. Moving, the farm, fishing tackle, etc.. Finally went on a fishing trip to Horwood lake lodge with the family and CFN. What a great time. The heat made walleye fishing tough, but every other species had a hot bite. Decent cabins, good people, good food. Can't wait til next year's adventures.
  16. Those margins area lot larger than you think. I spent 12 years in garden center wholesale to know exactly what the ratios are. Some mark ups being as high as the jewelry industry. Your $9.99 tub of fertilizer wholesaled at 1.99. Some of those trashy Xmas trinkets that everyone seems to love whsle a 0.25, double that for shipping from China and retail at $3.99. As for names. Those firms still held by a family member, with a family name, are far better run than the faceless corporation. Their name and reputation are on the line. People know who they are. Whereas a big corporation, say Maple Leaf is faceless/nameless. They don't have to face personal recrimination when people get sick from tainted product. Or a corporation like Ford or Volkswagen. No one personally had to face the music when the cars with defective gas tanks started blowing up and killing people. Who went to jail after the Bopal disaster??? All but one were released on bail immediately after conviction. As for the CRTC, they are managed and controlled by the major media outlets. Just like most regulatory and advisory bodies, membership comes from within the industry.Always have, always will. Ma and Pa kettle need not apply
  17. The problem with sales inventory is pathetic. The flyers for each sale are set up 6 months prior to each season. Every store manager/owner knows the schedule and list. It is up to the individual owner/manager to order ahead to beef the inventory before the sale.. That is where it falls flat. Management don't want to buy in heavy inventories because 1) not enough storage space 2) extra inventory costs money, 3) if it doesn't sell, it's a loss. 4) some franchisees don't buy into the ad program. Now, some stores will only honor a raincheck for 30 days, knowing full well that no new stock will be coming in. All of it sucks, but government no longer cares about protecting the consumer, and far too many business owners don't care about their reputation, because their family name is not the one being dragged through the mire.
  18. We went to over 50 houses. Saw lineups of 100 applicants, bidding wars. Landlords close a listing one week and relist the next for $500 more. Some of the places were pure dumps.
  19. Finally in our new house. it will take weeks to get settled in and sort through the chaos.
