  1. Ya don't got any less than 40 fow with 6 color on...I've found that the tadpoles are good for getting a line down straight off the back and I usually run a 6 ft leader from that to the bait....has no resistance while reeling in either like a jet or dipsey although a line counter reel is a must to help guage line out for depth...I usually let them.out till hit bottom. Once and give reel a few cranks and leave it...at like 1.8 to 2.8 mph
  2. If a 30 inch draw length worked I have one of my first bows here from 1993 ...it's a myles keller impact xi...it's still in great condition just outdated with a giant cobra 3 pin sight and dually prong arrow rest....I can still take this bow off the shelf and shoot bullseyes....was gonna keep it but if it helps a fellow hunter serious about getting into it
  3. Which hand would you draw a compound back with??...possibly know someone with a used bow or two...
  4. Welcome to the site...I've been a bow hunter for 26 years ..I started shooting archery when.i was 12 with just a long bow then purchased my first used compound at 16....the first deer I ever had an encounter with busted me drawing my bow back to shoot...that's where the learning began...I blew that opportunity and from there I went my first 3 seasons deerless ...my forth year I hit a small buck in the front shoulder shooting 45lb draw and the deer broke off the arrow with not much penetration...never found it...still had a tagg into last week.of the season...my buddy says sit my stand and use my crossbow so I did..I sat for 8 minutes and shot a spike buck....I was jacked about having the 1st deer but for some strange reason I just felt no challenge at all with a bit of regret for killing something...I got over it once my parents freezer was full....I continued to practice with my compound into the next season and got really good with it..shot a buck ...and filled buck tags 6 yrs in a row with the compound...had a 2 yr slump shooting over ones back and another under its belly...borrowed a crossbow again and bang deer down ....I can tell ya a tonne of ups and downs but at the end of the day the cross bow is very simple providing you are sighted in with the arrows and broad heads your using and know what yardage the Deers at and where your your bows hitting...same goes for compound..sighted In for the arrows and broadheads you shoot out to 20 30 or 40 yards....I've never took a poke out to 40 but I recently killed my big buck this year at 37 yards double lunged...again practice daily made that possible..I.shoot 6 arrows before i Ieave home to be sure I'm dialed in....I've killed around 12 bucks with compound and maybe 3 with crossbow ...you can definitely hunt on the ground way easier with a crossbow for starters...I've jumped deer before walking out that stood there looking right at me that I couldn't draw back on but had I had a crossbow loaded I could've point and clicked and been successful probably...I think you should keep an eye on kijjiji maybe or head out to erie trackers and check out their used bows if your going for a compound...31 inch draw is a bit tougher but possible in used...newer for ready to hunt setup I'd go with a pse or a bear ...everything else is pricy.... I used a pse for years but now I'm shooting a bear .....if ya like a challenge and not afraid of failure or disappointment the compound is awesome....if ya wanna optimize your chances of being successful go with a crossbow ....and there's a lot of other things to consider....cold weather more bulky clothes tougher to use compound also with cold hands gloves on ..no problem with a crossbow ...good luck..there's a lot to consider ...im sure there's a few more guys to chime in like mooseslayer I believe is a compound shooter as well and others...pictures of my 3 best compound bow bucks including last seasons which Is the euro mount ....my biggest is a frow entry at 177 5/8" .I hunted 62 times to kill that deer on December 27th willing to eat tag soup to get him lol
  5. Try a shiny husky jerk and keep the rod tip down just barely reeling and twitch a few times and pause for 5 to 10 seconds all the way back..mostly hit on the pause...worked at gibby last year at ice out
  6. A few months ago we lost our girl lab jazz at 10 yrs old...was a tough decision to get another dog so soon but a new one kinda fell into our laps and now we have a coon tick hound massive mix....hoping to try and teach her to shed hunt soon

  15. I will try getting a weight later today...I figure 250 ish
  16. Moved a deer stand into a thick section of bush after seeing multiple large tracks in the bush last week....well it worked perfect...at 330 a small fawn came through hung out for 10 minutes...at 420 a doe passed by me at 50 yards very cautiously I stayed completely still knowing the possibility of a buck being not far away....she slowly walked off outta sight ..about 20 mins goes by and I hear a couple twigs snap..I catch movement to my left headed towards a good sized opening in front of me...a good buck ....I ranged him at 41 yards...I have 20-30-40 yrd pins on my bow and practice constantly with all three distances....the deer takes three steps and stops looks right up at me and bobs his head up and down he knew something wasn't right the wind was perfect though....he dropped his head so I pulled my bow back with my knees just knocking away and got settled and put the 40 yrd pin behind his shoulder and letter fly ...wack...I shoulder shot him he ran my arrow fell out quickly...I was devastated...I waited till it was completely dark to get outta the tree...I looked at the arrow..4 inches penetration ...walked in the direction he ran with my headlight on and woohoo there he was lying in the thickets 40 yards away.... bowhunting is awesome!. This is my third largest whitetail in the last 20 yrs..stoked!
  17. Congrats! That one on the right in back of pick up is close to 160" ...I had some luck this morning I filled a doe tag at about 750 am..took A 34 yrd shot with my compound but she was quartering away just perfect from 18 ft up..was an alright sized at 98 lbs gutted.
  18. I have a couple buddy's out near Goderich area that catch chickens and load trucks on the weekend...they make over 350$ cash in an 8 hour shift🤨...not sure that has anything to do with the inflation but ya it's ridiculous...I'm spending over 500$ a month with a family of 4 ....😕
  19. Yes Larry egerter and his brother Wayne still do it....they make a simple salt n pepper sausage and cut and wrap in brown packaging...they're shop isn't the cleanest...and I believe he charges an extra 20$ to skin the deer if you bring it in with the hide on it so cut and wrap maybe 120 bucks I think...
  20. Slip floats was one of the best ways to catch eyes on rice lake for many years i had my trailer there....used to move into about 8 to 10 fow and use a 6 ft lead to the stopper....then wed put on lighted slips as it was getting dark and fish through the night....very productive....multiple limits doin that over the years
  21. Not a cat fan myself ...my rear Neighbour has 5 kittens in her shed now and keep comin in my yard and making my dogs go crazy in the house...and the two she already has are strictly outdoor cats so now theres 7 over there🙄
