JWL & I caught a few nice perch there & they were colder than I expected , and came out of 10 fow average there . I think the carp are back in the shallow waters . I did Gibby today ...what a RIOT !  I was fishing in 6 fow & the water was warm . I went 9 for 12  today after getting a late start at 10 a.m. I used 2 rods , one with maize on the hair , one with a corn puff . The puffs outfished the corn 2 to 1  . They didn't want the maize ,so I added a puff to the barbless hook & caught 2 carp withing 20 minutes . The second rod was busy all day with a few misses ...need to check the puffs every 15-20 minutes since a 'bump' can take the soft mushy corn puff in a second ! Most carp were 8-10 lbs ...some real scrappy ones !   One carp was only about 3-4 lbs.  It was a fun day ...and " only" 3 ticks on me . ( rip) !
Here's a few shots of the rigs and one average carp . Great day on the shore bank !

That’s really cool I’ll check it out. I’m going to try for carp from the yak this weekend coming see what happens. As for the carp in the shallows they seemed to be feeding from what I could tell. Rummaging through the weeds kicking up a ton of silt. Fairly big guys too but not together. Hope it helps.

Goodluck @Tyler0420. You ever chase carp from your yak? Had mine out in the harbour this morning and the carp we’re in shallow and just thought If its even worth it. I’m sure it would be a fun ride when they go for those long runs. Anyways how does one get involved with these 24 he tournament type deals? Is there prizes at the end ? Seems like a pretty cool thing.

The 1vs1 challenge series has started and I fish my round one next weekend. We are fishing a 24hr session. My opponent lives on the st Lawrence river and will be fishing there. I have a tough round one to get through. I haven’t done many 24hr sessions but I’m pumped for it. Starting to prep bait now.

I’m running hummingbird helix 5 with a lithium ion battery. It’s small weighs 1lb. The battery lasts forever. Don’t have any good pics of my set up. The finder is at the front of my track with the rod holders Closest to me. The butt end of the rods sit under my legs when peddling and don’t get In the way. Wish I could come out Sunday but gotta do two private jobs so can’t really skip out on work.

Just installed this Lowrance Hook2 Downscan and Marcum lithium on my Wilderness Systems Ride yak, but haven’t got out to try it out yet.
Had been all set too buy the 5” model, but when I went to place my order on Cabelas I found the 7” on sale for only $30 more, so couldn’t resist the bigger screen! Yak came with the black base stating “Lowrance Ready”, and it was. The black base its mounted on lifts right out just by loosening the round ball at front (bottom in first photo), with the transducer mounted underneath, as shown in 2nd photo.

Some of the portage trips are the most memorial , whether it be fishing , hunting , or both . We had 4 portages to get to Upper Mace Lake for our moose hunt .
The more remote a place is the better the fishing or hunting . My canoe has seen many portages & it is 90 lbs. (good thing my buddies are all bigger !
We never got into the spekkies , but the splake were a close second !
    As Bubba14 said above " Memories "  !

It has been a few years for me as well. We'd usually go in behind Kearney or South River. We'd go in opening weekend, end of April/first of May, usually 3 or 4 canoes.

One year we began the trip with light snow falling, only to have the temps reach the mid-high teens by the afternoon. That trip turned into a harrowing experience as we had to deal with howling winds and huge waves as we crossed the final, shallow lake to our vehicles. Two local, very experienced guys dumped their canoe while crossing this lake just before us.

On another trip, the temps dropped to -7 both nights. We were all cozy in our sleeping bags but of course you need to exit them to get the fire going and breakfast started. Both mornings I volunteered to get the firewood, the extra activity helped to warm me up!!

Those trips sure bring back the memories, fish, food, moose and lots of laughs!!!

Made our yearly trek into welcome lake in Algonquin. Weather was interesting to say the least. 36 degrees In may -.- and they say global warming isn’t a thing. Anyways we did well on the fish, buddies went 7/7 both of them and I went 3/5 on Saturday after a slug fest to get into the lake friday. Thunderstorm hit Sunday morning we got soaked and decided that was enough after the gruelling portages in and took a nice paddle / portage out. All In all a great quick weekend and some good eating fish too.

Some beautiful fish there, looks like you had a great trip. Haven't done a real Algonquin canoeing trip since high school during the May 24 weekend in 1986. Had some big temp swings during that trip too, cold and wet, then hot and eaten alive by black flies next.
