Hey new to the forum. I was just wondering if im allowed to be catch and releasing bass in Niagara, starting now? Or do i have to wait till June?

    Thx in advance

    Welcome to the forum.
definitely check the regs. If somebody tells you, you can fish, then MNR catches you and you say oh this guy told me I could that’s not gonna fly with them.

First post in a long time. Fell off a ladder at home last June 24th...broke left collarbone, 6 ribs and had a burst fracture of the L1 vertabrae. Didn't do much but hospital and therapy until Late December. Fishing and hunting didn't happen. Just finished 9 weeks doing contract work at Pickering and Darlington nuclear plants and this post has given me the itch to get out fishing.

Hoping to see some fish pics soon. I’m glad you recovered from the injuries.

Oh yes Dave the 'crayfish' !   We had a few spots to easily catch dozens of them , like a local pond just down the street , and at beside the old canal beside GM Glendale there was a long strip of ponds that were loaded with soft crayfish . The bass loved them , and now we use tubes and Senkos ,ect.

And one day we caught 3 snappers in a stinky pond ,took them to a Chinese restaurant on St. Paul St. and he gave us $1.50 !!  That was good money then (1955) as we were paid $7.50 per thousand dew worms from a dealer on Cushman Rd. At 15 two of us picked worms all night , hence I'm now a pro-dewie picker.

As the song says "Those were the days my friend , those days will never end ( in our minds)

When fishing for eyes at Deseronto we had good luck using the floating Gum Drops . We used half a dew worm for scent and rigged them on a 3 way with a small spinner in front of Gum Drop . It is a very light rig and easy to fish water 35 ft.  deep or more and we also used bottom bouncers for weights . We used twice as many worms with a regular worm harness as the pesky perch would rob you in seconds . The Gum Drops would catch those little perch and save your worms. I think trout would hit them too.

They come in various sizes .

    I’ll try them out.

I agree with everything you have said here mindful angler. I think everybody struggles sometimes... I know I do. I am also no stranger to the opioid crisis as I have lost family members to this and have felt the effects of it for many many years. I definitely use fishing as a form of therapy without even thinking about it. As you mentioned, there are so many benefits to fishing. I also believe music and learning an instrument can have huge benefits as well. Trying to figure out a song or just jamming with friends or alone can be a great way to stay in the moment, but not as good as fishing!! Haaa!!! Peace!!

Nothing better than fishing and music to relieve stress.

Thanks for the heads up PDG , I haven't got the 2024 reg.book but I check the regs for zone 16 and 20 on line before getting my gear ready for the next fish to target .

When I use my 3 way harnesses with worms I have caught cats ,drum and trout as well ,and the occasional oos bass . I love the fight with my 10' Okuma rod .

I can’t wait to get the harnesses out for some Walter’s.

Where's the snow ??  We got about 2" here , had to fetch the snow shovel again !

And the birds were bathing in the bird bath between to pieces of ice lol .

No snow where we were. There was some snow from Friday night close by. Must of been the path the storm took. Some lakes still frozen and I’m assuming the ones that are open have more current, rivers/creeks are flowing also.

  7. Went up to the land yesterday to build a shelterlogic car port.
The night before topped up all fluids, added air to “NEW tires”, washed it etc. making sure it was good for the 5hr drive. Around Mississauga kinda start noticing the back end swaying back and forth a bit.  I’m thinking it just the weight in the back of the truck or the snow and ice on the road.  My truck is always clunking and clanking so I didn’t think too much about it. Next thing I know we’re in Peterborough and the rear tire blows at 6am. Lucked out Canadian tire was 8min away. Towed there waited an hr for it to open and 3 hours to get seen.
Had tire instock and was covered under warranty since I bout them at CT.
got north and walked the land, had a beer and enjoyed the quietness.
Didn’t get the car port built, dropped it off and brought garbage home.
long day with 12hrs of driving. image000007.jpegimage000002.jpegimage000001.jpegimage000000.jpeg

I would be honoured to have you and Tyler join me sometime on the bank. The carp fishing in Canada is so much more than The St. Lawrence River. We are truly spoiled in Niagara with so much opportunity and an abundance of wild fish that have never seen a hook!

There are some amazing mirrors that have been captured in Southern Ontario. I hope to see some beauties being posted in the coming years here on NFN.

Look at these 2 from a few years back. Caught 20 minutes apart.
