  1. Sweet catch, definitely a nice bonus… bit of a rough war wound it has on its back, looks fresh
  2. Sweet catches, screw work I’m going fishing is something I wish I could say everyday
  3. Nice salmon, bet they were a great fight, what lure caught these? As for the eel, was it an American eel? I thought these were endangered and catches are supposed to be reported
  4. How many per pack do you get for $20, I hope you get at least 10-15
  5. If you want to avoid birdsnests then #3 is the most important rule most novices and amateurs don’t understand, it’s why you have a loop sticking out of your spool after you cast and started reeling. To eliminate line twist I attach my spoons and spinners with a snap swivel, tied to a leader which has an additional swivel, this double swivel approach hasn’t let me down. I also strictly use spro swivels and have been happy, DONT cheap out on terminal tackle, especially with salmon, you wouldn’t do it with muskie
  6. I wish my commute involved my canoe
  7. Unfortunately I’d prefer to keep my lure a secret lol, it’s a 6.5 inch soft fish plastic jerk bait of my own design, made the original out of play dough and used plaster of Paris to pour a mold around it, I’ve caught plenty of trophies with it, just need to make a smaller and larger version of it
  8. Went out for an hour last night to Jordan marina, saw about 6-8 other anglers fishing. As soon as I geared up the gentleman beside me caught a small sheepshead about 2-3 pounds. After about 20 minutes I notice something slash at my bait, missed it the first time but not the second, set the hook into my first bowfin in quite a while. Small guy only a few pounds, but this is the first one I’ve seen or heard of coming out of the marina, although I’m sure they are around. Fish was caught on my own homemade soft plastic lure
  9. That stinks Tyler, but if I were you I’d get the di/si if you could, technically you already paid for it, and I also thought 600 was a bit pricey…… when I first started using DI on my helix I found it was entertaining and informative, the first time I used it I was on a northern lake, fished eight hours without a bite but since I had my eyes glued to the screen, learning all the fine details underwater kept me satisfied, I never want to go without it again to be honest
  10. Just got an email from humminbird about upgrades to various models in the helix series, I hope you got yours for a good deal
  11. I loved my helix 5 when I had it, lost in an unfortunate canoe accident I wasn’t apart of…. I had the gen1, got it when it first came out, but mine only had DI, no SI or gps, did you get one with any DI or SI? I found the down imaging to be very useful, helped me fish out a lost rod in 20 feet of water, I could literally see it laying on bottom
  12. 25” would probably be in the 8 pound range, wow that’s a giant, I would mount that beast
  13. I’ll definitely be posting some pictures of it soon
  14. Solid paint job in red, the original colour. Like yours my father purchased this approximately 40 years ago, this was at the sportsman show back in the day, and I made sure the purchase was justified, put many war wounds on this canoe, we’re lookin to bring this back close to original condition. She’s a freighter style, is rated for somewhere in the 800-900 pound range. I can stand up in either front or back and fish comfortably like it’s a casting deck, good balance is still required, although I can walk from front to back comfortably. Biggest downside is the weight, approximately 90-100 pounds, makes this a two person portage canoe
  15. Nice job, my dad and I are still finishing up our canoe, did all the fibreglass repairs and now just sand and paint to go
  16. Happy Canada Day, so happy to live in freshwater fishing heaven 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
  17. Nice catch, feels good when you’re on short time but still manage to be productive
  18. The aurora trout is on my personal bucket list
  19. No it’s not your line, it’ll be your lure/bait and the way it’s being presented that’ll affect your success the most, followed by timing Just keep at it and try different things
  20. Wow unbelievable catch congrats, we’re very blessed with plenty of great carping spots around niagara, you should definitely push for a 40#..... my nephew says he wants to catch some catfish, time to look for a hopefully tickless spot to catch some
  21. I went 1/3 last week shore casting in grimsby, yes the browns are in and the fishermen have followed Although near 4 feet long you say? I believe the ontario record is around 38 inches long, if you said you had a near 4 footer you're well into record territory my friend, I'd be mighty pissed about that. Congrats on hookin up though, those browns put up a great fight, hopefully you can get a photo op of a giant fish next timed, well done. And I've gotten nothing on my spoons, but my minnowbaits and crankbaits have been gettin bit as well
  22. I also remove the middle trebles of all my jerkbaits, I really don't see any point to having three trebles on a five or six inch lure, just a rake of hook points that can really hurt the fish unnecessarily, and no loss in hooking percentage
  23. Very nice but what did you weigh it with? At almost 38” it would definitely be over ten pounds for sure, especially with the girth I’m seeing in the pic... just my opinion
