Captain Hooksets got a reaction from Tyler0420 in Pike Plastics
They aren’t paddle tail but Berkley caffein Shad’s are very soft and you can hook them weedless. Caught many pike on them. similar to a zoom fluke but softer.

Captain Hooksets reacted to Davidp16 in Opening morning gobler!
Gonna cook it up this Friday! Just going to get my mom to stuff it with dressing and just do it up like a Christmas turkey in the oven, I'm very excited to try wild turkey!

Captain Hooksets reacted to Davidp16 in Opening morning gobler!
Hey guys! Got it done this morning!!! Got my first ever bird at 7am right on the dot! Am working afternoons this week and Got done at 11pm last night went home and woke up at 445am to get out there. Was a beautiful chilly morning had 3 does come in around 630am, heard a few Tom's gobble. I looked over and saw a Tom walking in slowly to my decoys, didn't call at all today just set up my decoys.. he was so focused on the hen decoy and that's when I got him one shot and fell down, I'm so thankful to harvest my first ever bird.

Captain Hooksets reacted to Markster in Raccoon skin hats - why not?
Well, the days are colder and its dark sooner so whats a guy to do besides watch tv.
I harvested a pile of prime 3xl raccoon this year, and the auction prices don’t look too good right now so….i figured why not try something different.
A few of the coon were yellow and because the market doesn’t like those as much, they were the first candidates for the dip.
i acid-tanned them and sewed up some hats.
First time trying it out and they turned out pretty good i think.
The underwool this year is outstanding! Its crazy thick and full.
just have to sew the leather liners now and they are good to go.

Captain Hooksets got a reaction from Bubba14 in Police shooting in hagersville
Bubba, thank you from your service. Policing seems almost impossible these days. They are constantly under scrutiny, and always seem like you hear only the wrongdoings but rarely hear about the good deeds. You can’t use too much force and when you don’t is when you get shot. How do you win? The world is so soft these days ……

There you go JW, now i’m sure you’re going to get a nice polyester shirt sent to you with your name on the back and a big noma and Rose Sucheck brand logo on the front. No Busch beer logo though. Afterall, no-one wants to be caught dead with advertising that swill.😎

Captain Hooksets reacted to smerchly in First cold weather outing
Jack ....you are the PM again today ! The parking meter was just about expired and you nail a pike .
Considering the cold wind , very low water level (floats set at 3.5 ft) , you managed to snaggle anothe pike .
Call me EELer I think that the last "fish" I caught ! I'm losing my touch , and my mind !!
anyhoo ....it was good to see you and great to fish again and get rid of some rust ...
and it was nice to finally see a few minnows with the gulls & cormorants getting some .
The crowd on the east wall didn't seem to be getting much action , maybe the sudden cool down ....
pike was exactly 24 inches ...tomorrows supper ...
thanks Jack !

Captain Hooksets reacted to Jwl1 in First cold weather outing
Had the pleasure of getting out with smerch today after what seems to be forever. We headed out with the thoughts of multi species possibilities for the morning....a bit of floating around some minnows...fishing the bottom...and a bit of bottom bouncing in hopes of a trout a pike a perch or anything else that might bite for that matter...we spent a few hours giving it a go with no success...then I finally pulled one out of a hat. I think the sudden cold snap and weird weather today may have had them turned off a bit.... Let the cold water season begin!!!...lol.. Always a pleasure Bill..thanks for the pick up and the minnows and of course the good company. We will have to get out again soon

Captain Hooksets reacted to Jwl1 in Today with my daughter
By the way ..happy Thanksgiving everyone....here's something I'm thankful for.....after spending a great weekend with my daughter sharing all weekend between a friend's giving type dinner on Saturday at my house...a family dinner yesterday at my brother's house...my daughter and I thought it would be a great idea to step out and do some fishing on the way to dropping her back home....we waited until the weather cleared up a bit and spent a great afternoon at one of my old fishing haunts.....we drowned some worms and had a totally action packed afternoon...bites every time a line hit the water....she had a blast catching a bunch of Sunnie's and the odd perch in the mix.....no trophies.....but my trophy was watching her have a blast catching fish all afternoon right until we ran out of worms......and I always know it's a great day and makes me a proud father when my young adult daughter wants to share some time with her dad....lol

Captain Hooksets reacted to smerchly in Drill / Battery
Thanks Capt , i heard batteries lose their charge just sitting on the shelf and of course have limited charges . It seems a shame to toss out so many good drills , chargers and batteries since the batteries cost as much as most drills . I will fill a strong cardboard box with said items plus other 6 & 9 volt batteries and 'depleted' smoke detectors etc., and take them al to the dump where I hope they recycle most components . There is something to be said about the old 'corded' technology sometimes.
....got the new drill,,,very nice ! And it was $149.99 ....saved me $9.99 (every penny counts !

Smerch, often times it’s the battery. They don’t last forever. I have multiple brands , DW, MW and have all had batteries bite the dust after some years.

Captain Hooksets reacted to Markster in Deer season opening day
I hear ya guys about shooting a deer when its warm out.
Its hard to find a butcher around here with a cold storage as well. It Used to be easy back in the day.
However, i feel a certain “obligation” to go out seeing its opening day and all. :=)
last year i passed on quite a few deer early on and finally took one during the rut when it was colder.
Truth be told, i just like having the excuse to be out there and see what shows up. A Thermocell is a game changer in the early season btw.
captain h: i always put my name in for the controlled draw and usually get picked (first season) but i rarely end up going out. I really enjoy the bow hunt.
genec: if i recall you missed some of the spring turkey season so I’m sure you want to fill a tag. I’ve never tried fall season - are tactics any different than spring season?
bubba: i used to go to a deer camp around wilberforce for many years. Same bunch of guys every year. One guy was great at planning it out and gave directions to everyone. Of all the time i went there i never saw a shootable deer but did see plenty of moose. Camp was a load of fun though and there was always alot of laughs and the food was great, but never did shoot a deer there. In there area i’m in now i see deer pretty much each sit and typical shooting distance with the bow is well within 10 yrds in most cases. Most of the guys i used to go with have passed now so not much point in the trip for me. Enjoy your time there and whatever you do, don’t bring the pickled eggs. Deadly.

Captain Hooksets reacted to smerchly in Credit Cards
Yes I could buy a nice rod & reel for that money (less a case of beer for the movers)
I paid by debit , and before I ok'd the total amount including taxes , the screen asked what amount of tip I would 'like' to pay . At least the tip wasn't taxed (yet) until it's added to their wages .....
Time for a fishing break today ....need to wet that Husky Jerk again at Port Dal ! ( & get beer....never come home empty handed )

Smerch, are there not any scrappers around to come and get it for free ? In my neck of the woods I put appliances at the curb and someone just comes and gets it…..I don’t even have to make a call. I put my old fridge out 3 weeks ago, gone in less than an hour ! Free!

Captain Hooksets reacted to genec in Foxes "Terrorising" N.F.
We have a young fox in our neighbourhood. Saw it trotting down sidewalk twice in a week during the day.
i like seeing them around because I know there won’t be any mice around with the fox present.
People need to learn that cats are INDOOR pets, and should NOT BE LET OUTSIDE because they kill for fun, and kill far more small birds and animals than a fox!
