I'd imagine a lot of developement in the region has to do with the loss of habitat.

We got them as a teen in the '60's up to 14 inch was my best, the Shorthils Park area was actually downstream of the better fishery and stream habitat. Lived in Port Rowan for a while in the 70's, there were a few there in Norfolk County back then if you knew where to look

I fished them off a 3 way swivel with the sinker on a dropper , lower Niagara, never a problem with line twist

I used the small ones for walleye on bay of quinte instead of harness blades.  Worked just fine for me.
 
Bigger ones are good for lake trout behind cowbells.

Many years ago we camped at Round Lake where the Bonnechere River enters, did alot of canoeing on the river,didn't get much other than hammer handle pike and the odd largemouth

Been going there for over 40 years and wouldn't think of going without a dog unless you just want to get a lot of exercise walking. The birds love to run and without a dog really hard to flush. You might get lucky and flush a couple walking the hedgerows or ditches? Probably have more fun going to a Game Farm and using one of their dogs for the day.

It was a local hotspot for Largemouth in the 80's, got fished heavily, probably excessively. Sure ain't the same with Campbell's Marina gone, new bridge over the QEW and all silted in.  

Oh boy, the only time I fished within the Harbour was through the ice back in the late 70's and early 80's, it was at the time an awesome Perch fishery, plenty of true Jumbo's were to be had. The good ole days as they say. 

A late friend of mine used to fish it often back then for Largie's, he had 7lber he caught there mounted by Joe Martin, it was a tank.

Yes I believe it was the tsc store my buddy got it from which is now peavey mart...I think even then it was like 22 bucks maybe ..could be $30 by now ....
