Davidp16 reacted to genec in Tuesday turkey
Finally got a turkey this morning after 3 days.
18.77 pounds, 10.1/2” beard, and short spurs - 15/16” & 7/8”.
However, it was the easiest turkey I’ve got in a long time.
I set up along a wheat field edge along a woods where I thought they might be roosting.
After it started getting light a bird started gobbling over my right shoulder less than 50 yds away.
After gobbling for over 20 minutes or so he flew down just 30 yards in front if me….game over!!

Indigenous people don't need a license to fish on their own territory. Anywhere else and they're just like you and I. Be careful who you accost without knowing everything

Davidp16 reacted to The Mindful Angler in MENTAL HEALTH. WHAT IS IT? WHY IS IT IMPORTANT AND HOW CAN FISHING HELP?
1 in 5 Canadians in any given year struggle with a mental health issue. I for sure am one of them. One of the best ways I cope is to go fishing, the other way is to advocate and help break the stigma surrounding mental health. Fishing is the ONLY activity that most times I am able to be completely present in the moment. I am hoping to spark some engagement on the NFN surrounding mental health and fishing 🙏
Mental health and mental illness can seem a bit confusing, so let's break it down. Mental health is basically how you're doing emotionally and mentally overall. It's about feeling good about yourself, handling stress, and getting along with others. Think of it as your mental well-being.
Now, mental illness is when things aren't going so great in your head. It's like having a cold, but for your mind. This could mean feeling down a lot, worrying too much, or having trouble focusing. Mental illnesses can range from mild to serious, like depression or anxiety disorders.
Here's something alarming: even though a lot of people deal with mental health issues, many aren't getting the help they need. Can you believe that 1 out of 2 people struggling with mental health aren't getting the support they require? That's a big problem we need to fix.
Anxiety is super common too, affecting 1 in 8 people. It's like that jittery feeling you get before a big test, but turned up to 11.
And then there's the opioid crisis, where 21 people in Canada die every single day from overdosing. Not only is this a physical health issue, but it's also got big mental health implications. Addiction is tough to deal with on its own, but when it's mixed with mental health struggles, it's even harder.
Scary fact: 200 people in Canada try to end their lives every day. That's a huge number, and it shows how crucial it is to raise awareness and support each other when it comes to mental health.
Canada has made progress in mental health care, but we've still got a long way to go. We need to smash the stigma surrounding mental health, make it easier to get help, and make sure everyone understands what's going on.
Remember, it's totally okay not to be okay. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. One cool thing that can help your mental health is fishing. It's a chill way to relax, connect with nature, and just take a break from everything going on in your head.
The positive impacts that fishing can have on one's mental health cannot be denied! Davidp16 reacted to Surf and Turf in Son's first Mallard
Picked up my son's Mallard from Gunner today. He did a great job as usual. Very unique pose and base, the picture doesn't do it justice. My son was very pleased!
If you ever want professional taxidermy done, Gunner does an awesome job.

Davidp16 reacted to Bass-turd in Mmmm…..brownies!!!
Got out in the sun today and was rewarded with my first shore brown, approx 26-28 inches and about 5-6lbs, caught on a 1/4 oz Cleo in chrome/green……the weather is looking favourable the next little while for early trouters, just be careful the rocks on shore can still be ice covered

Davidp16 reacted to smerchly in Cleaning Fish
In my younger days we scaled many of our fish and fried them with the skin intact & removed the bones after cooking them.
We scaled fish like bass perch , pike , pickerel , silvers and the larger gills . If the fish dried too much scaling was not easy so either soak them or fillet them.
THIS came up on You Tube today and it worked very efficiently ....easy to make , and can be used for a back scratcher also .

Davidp16 reacted to fishingking in Hunting coyotes this year
I don't have too much free time to target the Coyotes but if your hunting from the ground...take a spool of fishing line...tie it off to a coat hanger or type of spring and use any type furry stuffed child's or pet toy from the dollar store and give it small pulls to simulate wounded or dying prey while calling if you don't want to purchase an e caller....can have it any distance just can't pull more than a few inches....can also create a secure base that will not move but I just used a coat hanger...blasted one at 30 yards right in the face with my 12 guage and 00 buck

Davidp16 reacted to Darryl L in Hunting coyotes this year
It definitely brings them in, coupled with the rabbit in distress sounds. Usually they figure it out before they actually get to the decoy, but by then they usually have a round through them. Sometimes they will just sit and stare at it wondering what's going on which just gives you a few extra seconds to get a shot off

Davidp16 reacted to roadrunner in Crappie day on the water
Got out the other day on the boat and had a pretty good day on the water. Fish were very picky. Went through a few baits until I figured out what made them click. The bite was extremely light. You couldn't feel it at all. I love chasing these spotted fish around! Made for a pretty solid fish fry! Anyone else still getting them? Thought I was done with the boat but the weather looks great again this weekend! Not bad for mid December!
