Jmaz4 reacted to smerchly in First cold weather outing
Jack ....you are the PM again today ! The parking meter was just about expired and you nail a pike .
Considering the cold wind , very low water level (floats set at 3.5 ft) , you managed to snaggle anothe pike .
Call me EELer I think that the last "fish" I caught ! I'm losing my touch , and my mind !!
anyhoo ....it was good to see you and great to fish again and get rid of some rust ...
and it was nice to finally see a few minnows with the gulls & cormorants getting some .
The crowd on the east wall didn't seem to be getting much action , maybe the sudden cool down ....
pike was exactly 24 inches ...tomorrows supper ...
thanks Jack !

Had the pleasure of getting out with smerch today after what seems to be forever. We headed out with the thoughts of multi species possibilities for the morning....a bit of floating around some minnows...fishing the bottom...and a bit of bottom bouncing in hopes of a trout a pike a perch or anything else that might bite for that matter...we spent a few hours giving it a go with no success...then I finally pulled one out of a hat. I think the sudden cold snap and weird weather today may have had them turned off a bit.... Let the cold water season begin!!!...lol.. Always a pleasure Bill..thanks for the pick up and the minnows and of course the good company. We will have to get out again soon

Jmaz4 reacted to mooseslayer in Fishing in Quebec
I was at a friend's cottage on an island on Lac dassarat in Quebec for a week. Every year 4 couples go and we have built a dock, then stairs up steep hill, ramp to winch up cart for gas cans, motors, 100lb propane tanks.
This year was finishing a small deck at the top so lots of time for fishing which was good. $50 for a one week license but got a stringer full most times out and brought 24 walleye home (6 per person there) and probably 16 good pike. A few perch and bass.
One day of rain and wind but otherwise decent weather.

Grand river dunville access to erie if calm if not fish the river. Troll n smash bottom with crank baits. Mixed bag of fish is highly likely.
Last night sheephead, catfish n 5 walleye.

Fantastic morning in the near perfect weather in Port D. The conditions were perfect and the fish had woke up and chose violence. 2nd cast of the day on a tube brought my PB Largemouth of the year, but the biggest fighter of the day was won by my first Smallie of the day, who was pretty adamant that my crankbait was now his, and he’d clearly had enough of my protests.
Couldn't get the Longnose Gar to bite, which is a great shame as they had a stunning pattern on their scales. Still, there’s always another day; and that’s what I love about this therap…ahem hobby.

Jmaz4 reacted to Spiel in It took 45 Years
So last Thursday I took the boat back to Dunnville, nothing unusual about that.
However this time was very different. Just prior to Covid I reconnected with my childhood friend and neighbour and now post Covid we finally managed to go fshing together, again after a 45 year gap. The fishing post cold front was not stellar but the day, the memories, the conversation.....well in short everything was quite special for both of us.
While the post cold front Walleye would not come out to play with us, the Sheephead finally showed mid morning when the water warmed one full degree F*
The post fishing trip ended with my usual stop at the Country Chip Wagon where my friend (Chris) was happy to treat me to a late lunch.
For me it's never the fish count, it's the memories created and those revisited. 🙂
Here's a few pictures from the day ending with my boy's second ever boat trip, exhausted as he was still wagging his tail.

Jmaz4 reacted to Jwl1 in Pike hunting with smerch today
Had the pleasure of meeting up with smerch this morning on the quest to catch a couple toothie critters ...today's tactics pretty simple.....slip float and minnows for bait....I guess he just wanted to show off because first cast as fast as his line could settle....bam got one!.... little while later and up pops the creature from the black lagoon!!!!....after a couple hours and a few missed bites I finally found out what kept stealing my bait...and phew ..skunk off......I ended the day with something that was big enough to break me off as fast as I could say ..hey this one has some weight to it!!!...had to go at that point and get some sleep for work tonight.....always a pleasure over the years Bill... Thanks for spending a great morning

Got a real nice brown lower Niagara. Even with 20lb braid hard to tow against the current and land even after it tired. I think I will do this more often.

Jmaz4 reacted to Chrisb in blow coming for Erie
My neighbour's yard last night. It is supposed to all lawn.
I'll get a better look later today when I go down in daylight. I think I made it through with no damage but a lot of debris to cleanup.

Beautiful day. Just waiting for the fish to cooperate. It's been at least a year for me and the canoe so nice to just get out. Found some. 23 keepers almost all caught in an hour.

Jmaz4 reacted to smerchly in Hows the fishing been ?
Beauty day to be fishing ! Water is still on the muddy side . I tried a worm harness with a yellow blade but no hits. I saw some minnows breaking the surface and gulls going nutzy , so put a drop shot on and used small pieces of worms ...constant bites ...gobies , small perch , one nice white perch and a small bass . THEN , out of the blue I hooked something LARGER !!! After a great battle( about 15 seconds) I reel in a NICE walleye !! I don't eat the large ones ,so I carefully released it . It took a 1" piece of worm !
Tonight I rigged up my 7' ultra light rod and will spend another day having fun with the "pannies"
here she is ........ ☺️

A scrappy 20lb female from the WP today.
I fought a gigantic male for 15min and brought him to my feet but he was too big for the net and spit the lure while I tried to net him. The largest fish of my life. Another fish story ....
