Spent a night at Guelph Lake Conservation Area. Got the kayak out in the evening. I was close to being skunked if not for the last second LOL. I found a nice shallow bay where one unlucky snot rocket bit my bait (lucky for me). It was a tough evening so I called it shortly after that little guy bit, then I went and got some grub on the fire! oh and I also got an OOS weird looking orange-mutant lookin' bass.

The real fun was the next morning after packing up. I hit some smaller streams in search of some Specks "on the way" home and they did NOT disappoint and I had a limit in no time at all!

Finally was able to get after some Brookies on Thursday. Picked up my Dad and best fishing buddy on the way and off we went. This is the first time in a long time that we've Brookie fished together and I'm so proud that he actually did it. Walking rivers ain't easy. Man, I love seeing how excited he gets and it becomes very clear to see where I get that excitement from lol.

We ended up with three decent keepers and stocked up on a few Chubs for the ice season to use as tip up bait. I wouldn't say that this is the most productive day I've ever had brook trout fishing, but it was a great day for the memory bank regardless.

Fished the river yesterday and managed a 4man limit. Fishing was kinda tough if it wasn’t for the “hole in the wall” and a black worm with chartreuse tail. That worm took 22 of the fish. Seen some Americans using them and catching 4 fish in a couple minutes right beside us so we put the same bait on and it was non stop for a couple drifts. Water was dirty maybe 10-20”viz depending where you were (Canadian waters). a lot of small fish. The winning fish was 26 1/2” usually it’s over 30”. We had 22 1/2” but wasn’t good enough for top 10. I believe there was 130 boats entered. Great day to be on the water.

Below the dams water is always different due to run off, fishing has been really tough. Use this web cam for live water details:

Here are some hiking/fishing pics from this week, hoping to bonk more fish this weekend and donate them to family and friends since folks are struggling with these crazy fish prices at the store.

Took about three hours to get. Where I like to fish in the harbour didn't have a lot current as usual, but they were surfacing around me. Good clarity up to 4 ft. Just right.

Well, the days are colder and its dark sooner so whats a guy to do besides watch tv.

I harvested a pile of prime 3xl raccoon this year, and the auction prices don’t look too good right now so….i figured why not try something different.
A few of the coon were yellow and because the market doesn’t like those as much, they were the first candidates for the dip.
i acid-tanned them and sewed up some hats.

First time trying it out and they turned out pretty good i think.
The underwool this year is outstanding! Its crazy thick and full.

just have to sew the leather liners now and they are good to go.

Another enjoyable day with Jack , catching a few perch ,gills , cats but no pike or eels this time . We had worms & minnows , & I switched from the float to bottom fishing  for the last hour & got more action .  Surface water was warmer this time , as expected but the fish were still cold coming from 9-10 fow . It will be a zoo there tomorrow as the races are on ...it's hard enough now to find parking as some workers use the park spots.
    Enjoy those lunkers Jack !
Some of the perch are loaded with 'specks' all over their body and fins . This 12 incher as well as JWL's had some very small 'freckles' but they are on the skin ,not on the flesh . These fish were very solid and strong fighters for their size (thought they were spekkies)

Few fish around but nothing what the fishing used to be due to the stoppage of the "steelhead transfer" by the MNR.

Beautiful opening day morning. Got going a bit late but in my spot and set up by 5:30am.  Lots of gobbling around 6:30 in the adjacent bush talked back and forth but seemed to move off slowly in the wrong direction. Just after 7  two hens walked out into the field a couple hundred hards away and milled about, slowly making their way away from me down the bush line and then turned and came back. Two more hens came out to join them, followed by a big Tom that stood at the brush line for about 10 minutes. I was finally able to get his attention and he spent about 20 minutest working his way towards my set up. At the same time three deer were making their way straight down the field towards me. They seemed very intrigued by the decoys, calls and the big tom. The Tom got within 60 yards and the deer 75, the Tom and the deer had a bit of a standoff with the Tom finally deciding to head back to the woods. Damn! Not what I expected but at least they all put on a bit of a show!

First cast in the glen last week and a sturgeon picked it up! Ripped across, broke water and shook its head on the surface. Then it just dove really deep and did whatever it wanted. It stopped a couple times but I couldn't gain any line at all. After a half an hour I was down to just a few feet of line... nothing I could do so I cranked my drag and put my thumb down on the spool and luckily the hook came free and I got everything back. Except the fish! Unbelievable!! First time ever having one on in my life. Luckily the steelhead fishing was good right after that going 4/6 until 10:00 a.m when the water came up like crazy. Won't forget that day!!

Regrettably, the arthritis has been getting worse the past 2 years. Lots of wear and tear in the hips, pelvis, let alone all the lower back damage.  I knew it was coming, no surprises. Just have a brain that still thinks I'm 20.

Got a real nice brown lower Niagara. Even with 20lb braid hard to tow against the current and land even after it tired. I think I will do this more often.

My son and I tried Ramey's last evening from about 5:30-7:00 and were completely skunked. Some loose schools of baitfish came through but didn't stick around too much. On my camera I think I saw only shiners.

Lots of twix and mountain dew consumed..... so still successful as far as my son is concerned.
