Went out yesterday and grabbed a box of garbage bags for the truck. I’ll be cleaning up some local areas

Saturday morning until Sunday at noon. 4 anglers. All the garbage we brought in, we took out + walked up and down the bank to collect any bits of garbage we could find. All combined, the trash fit nicely into a large dollarama bag. Simple 👌. To my surprise the bank was fairly clean for a change. I wish everyone respected the environment.

Spent Saturday morning until Sunday at noon on the bank. It's been really tough the last few years to afford time to get out fishing. This was only the third time in 2024 I have been able to get out. Although the weather made it impossible to fish through the night on Saturday, both mornings were very productive. This pristine pre-spawn fish was the biggest of the session. 28.8 lbs. Fantastic battle. No baiting was necessary for these fish. Lots of fish came to a single pop up or with some pack - bait around the lead. Next adventure I hope to be able to take my kids out.

    Interesting behavior and observations.
Some things to note when not catching. (even though they may be looking at your bait)

Nice going Smerch no skunking! I gave a couple of spots around Hamilton Harbor a try today and spoke to a few other carpers out chasing them too but none of us had any luck. I had polarized glasses on and was seeing fish 2ft below the surface in about 10ft of water just minding their own business cruising. Thinking I'll give either Jordan or Martindale a try Friday, they can't have lockjaw forever
Even after being an ex-smoker for many years I could feel my throat getting sore today. Reminded me of being at the pub and breathing in second hand smoke as a kid. Hopefully there is some rain in the future to help the situation.

    Stay safe, tight lines.

Finally was able to get after some Brookies on Thursday. Picked up my Dad and best fishing buddy on the way and off we went. This is the first time in a long time that we've Brookie fished together and I'm so proud that he actually did it. Walking rivers ain't easy. Man, I love seeing how excited he gets and it becomes very clear to see where I get that excitement from lol.

We ended up with three decent keepers and stocked up on a few Chubs for the ice season to use as tip up bait. I wouldn't say that this is the most productive day I've ever had brook trout fishing, but it was a great day for the memory bank regardless.

I always wondered who took care of those garbage barrels. That man deserves so much respect and appreciation from everyone in the community, that area would be such a mess without him.

Today was awesome for me wow! Woke up at 445am to go fishing got to my spot, fished a bit nothing so moved down a bit more using worms, around 530am had a massive hit and line started running knew it wasn't a bass! 5 minutes later got him in and was a nice 5lb rainbow trout yummy! Gonna be good eats on the bbq! Ended up meeting with a buddy after that to try another spot and ended up the morning with 5 nice size smallies! All done fishing by 9am! And got all the smallest on a spoon and the trout on a dew worm! The trout was caught in 5 fow with current mayhe 3 foot out and the bass were caught just wading up to my knees in shorts. We got some good meat for the freezer and some dinner tonight yummy!

Had breakfast and watched the water with the wife at the conversation area and saw the brolly setup.
Knew there must be someone crushing the carp, Good luck.

It's been hit and miss this past week with some days producing a dozen fish and the next only a couple but looks like you have plenty to tempt them.

Wow, I'm incredibly grateful for the responses to my post.  First I would like to give a little background on myself; I am 38 and was born and raised in Nova Scotia (I haven't lived there in about 13 years now). I love fishing, but due to circumstances in life (constantly moving all over the Canada), I have been unable to make a good honest attempt at getting back to my roots of fishing.

I want to address a few things:

I couldn't agree more. I did look over some previous posts, and they were helpful, but, I really wanted to find a way to introduce myself to this forum. I have only been living in Niagara region since the beg. of 2020, and most of that was spent locked down. Needless to say, I don't really know anyone around here...especially anyone who has fished around here. I've tried introducing myself on other forums with "Hey my name is mark, just wanted to introduce myself", but it was never engaging enough to get a response. I would really like to have something to offer the community here. Having said that, I will be mindful of the forum rules, and not waste time of others moving forward.

Thanks for the welcome, and fishing advice. I will do my best to add something to your community here! 🙂

I spent the first 25 years of my life hunting and fishing with my father (or Rodfather as I would sometimes call him). The best times of my life for sure. I am a software engineer/developer. Don't get me wrong, I love my work. But if I love following a brook deep into the woods and catching brook trout all day, I would be doing that instead.  There was always something about the challenge of fishing these brooks (have to be quiet, and have an accurate cast, always new spots as you follow it) that was so satisfying. It's where happiness exists for me.

    Cheers

Finally tried Port Weller this week, but maybe too early in the year for that spot as I didn't get even a sniff of life but it's also my first time fishing there. I did bring back to the car a few ticks on my backpack and pants.
Lets hope this beautiful weather kills off a bunch of them!
