Wind game is a whole different ball game in the kayak. I was thankful to have the motor or it would have been a painful paddle back. Luckily ticks aren't an issue on the kayak. Have to watch myself on some hikes though. Maybe when I go to the vets to pick up the next dose of Bravecto for the pooch in June, I ask for a dose for me too?

Did you mean rust remover because I'm a bit rusty on the Pike catching? If thats the case, well shoot... Might have to get some before I head out again lol

Finally got a turkey this morning after 3 days.
    18.77 pounds, 10.1/2” beard, and short spurs - 15/16” & 7/8”.
However, it was the easiest turkey I’ve got in a long time.
I set up along a wheat field edge along a woods where I thought they might be roosting.
After it started getting light a bird started gobbling over my right shoulder less than 50 yds away.
After gobbling for over 20 minutes or so he flew down just 30 yards in front if me….game over!!

Same size for the trout in the upper 12 .One guy carried a wicker type basket with a lid and he gutted the brook trout and stuffed  wet grass into the gut cavity . I guess it helped keep them fresh for a while .( like keeping dew worms fresh in wet grass )
Nothing like frying brookies  rolled in flour, fried in butter with skin on and as Surf and Turf said  they make a great breakfast meal with eggs or with fries with dinner .
    I'm drooling cliff .....   🤤

Never fished the Saugeen proper, those ones are beasts!

We used to fish around Chatsworth area back in the 80's, most of the streams you could almost jump across, and most of the trout would be 7 or 8 inches, too small to filet, just gut them and fry up in butter. Good with a side of eggs for breakfast.

We would fish in the morning then drive around and shoot ground hogs in the afternoon, good times!

Saturday morning until Sunday at noon. 4 anglers. All the garbage we brought in, we took out + walked up and down the bank to collect any bits of garbage we could find. All combined, the trash fit nicely into a large dollarama bag. Simple 👌. To my surprise the bank was fairly clean for a change. I wish everyone respected the environment.

Spent Saturday morning until Sunday at noon on the bank. It's been really tough the last few years to afford time to get out fishing. This was only the third time in 2024 I have been able to get out. Although the weather made it impossible to fish through the night on Saturday, both mornings were very productive. This pristine pre-spawn fish was the biggest of the session. 28.8 lbs. Fantastic battle. No baiting was necessary for these fish. Lots of fish came to a single pop up or with some pack - bait around the lead. Next adventure I hope to be able to take my kids out.

Fished outta grimsby today. Wanted to get out to 40+fow but the winds had other plans. Made it to 25 and that was about the max wave height I’d wanna fish in. Cruised around a bit and went in to 12fow. Ended up with 2 lakers today one for each my buddy and I. Water temps were 50f. Both fish caught in flicker minnows.

This street gets busier every year as they build new houses and more business at 4th Ave. and plenty of speed demons driving their sporty cars .

I've heard living close to high tension wires can affect your health , not much info about it but it may also affect electronic devises ?
There's a house on Rykert St. with a tower right in their front yard .

Tried another spot. Water still murky, but enough current and depth to hopefully get something.
I used a larger bucktail fly (can't remember name) that floats really well (used as strike indicator) and added a 18" dropper to a beadhead nymph.
Caught four white perch in the current seem.
I changed the bead head for something more creature looking, maybe slightly larger, and caught nothing.
Went back to the beadhead and caught the 5th white perch and packed it in.
Learned something. How picky they can be and the spot they came out of.

Headed to the saugeen to fish with my pal John.
limits were too quick. We spent 3 days camping. Although we got a whack ton of rain. We dealt with it. These fish were all from the saugeen river. All wild fish.

Fishing was tough this time..I can't say I spotted a lot of fish but it can change on a daily basis...Some of the fish I saw were spooky as hell. As usual a lot of blown casts that should have been on target...Next trip I really have to spend way more time practising before I go, but I say that every time..You make the slightest mistake and you usually blow your shot..This was the best fish I got on a guided trip. A couple of days latter I landed one NINE POUNDS +/-  on the local diy flats !!!!!!! Overall not many fish but the big one might be a once in a lifetime fish....

While patiently waiting for the sound of the alarms to grab our attention we can clean up the mess the boneheads left behind . A plastic water bottle may be suitable to put  needles in but be extra careful handling them (tongs ,pliers) . And then there's the butts ! Some actually think they are harmless , imagine that !
We need more people like you Kevin , true stewards of our environment !
And that goes for hunters too , and everyone else enjoying our great outdoors . ( can't wait to catch up to you on those mirrors Kevin)

A quick tidy at Rice Lake this past weekend. I was surprised and disappointed to see this. 2 LARGE ziplok bags of spent shells scattered in the area we were fishing. We fished an island and safe to assume it may be an area duck hunters frequent. We left the place immaculate.

Note to self: crossbow scope is above arrow deck.
Just because you can see the bird in the scope doesnt mean your bolt has a clear path to the target.
Missed the shot at 20 yrds.

The last few years has been difficult for me to get out like I normally do. That being said, I truly appreciate the times when I can get out on the bank. This year I had one short 3 hour session locally, and a trip to Rice Lake this past weekend. Friday night until Monday morning, 3 of us fished when we could. The wind made it impossible to fish for most of the day Saturday, and almost impossible to fish during the night. Everyone caught fish and we had a great time together. I wanted to share the absolute beautiful mirror carp I caught. For most Canadian carp anglers, catching a mirror is nothing short of extraordinary! These fish were the highlight of the trip for all 3 of us.

Happy turkey eve! What are you guys favorite tactics for opening morning. I try to get close to the roost tree, set up my hen decoy and call softly but not too much. Had this guy all fired up and he came right in less then 10 yds last year!

It's good to see they are surviving the colder northern regions of Ontario . About 25-30 yrs. ago I saw about 20 turkeys  in an open field near Frankford (north of Belleville) .
Astorville  is near Nosbonsing and close to moose hunting territory . We would have enjoyed  a turkey on our moose trips but the grouse were always easy available .
Our grandkids parents (Ryckman) have been living in South River for many years and a friend had a cottage at Eagle Lake where we caught small rainbow trout (canoe).

I've had my 170 going on 8 years without an issue...a touch of seafood as mentioned in every couple tanks...don't leave bad fuel in it ...change it every month or run it dry same as a small outboard
