I agree with bigugli. They advertise a 35 minute crossing but that's the actual time for the high speed run under good conditions. What they neglect to tell you is the wait to board and leave the dock, then there is the slow speed taxi to where you can open it up. Then, when you arrive at Toronto Harbour, there's the slow speed meander to the docking area, the time to secure the craft and disembark. The 35 minute run becomes more like 2 hours in actual time. Plus, you have to drive to Port Weller, park your car then wait to board. In Toronto you have to leave the boat and then secure some sort of transportation to your actual destination, all this in often inclement weather. Tourists might do it once just for the experience but they are dreaming if they think they will attract daily business commuters. As bigugly said, it has been tried many times in the past and they all failed.

Hit the river in the morning for some quiet time, slowly trolling Ugli Boys harnesses with a friend. Caught just about everything but the kitchen sink. Only things we did not catch were pike, muskie and crappie.  Weatherman sure screwed up on the forecast again.  Where's the rain?????

Another too hot to fish day , so I decided to make an easy way to trap wasps that buzz me in the yard , more so when I water plants . I watched a few vids on U tube and quickly made this trap to try .....
It's 18 x 12" x 5" deep with 3" of soapy (Sunlight) water with some old ham & a small perch fillet tied to a board. About 4 hrs. later I counted 50 yellow jackets and about 100 flies .The bait is tied under the board & after the wasps feed they drop down & get into the soapy water . This trap is amazing . The vid. said chicken works better but I know from cleaning fish outside,  the wasps appear instantly, so I set some of the guts aside about 10' from me for them to dine .....Notice the eyes on the flies are red ....

Had a great week up in Timmins area with the family and good friends from CFN.   Lots of fish, good food, great hosts, good company. Could not ask for anything more.  (Unless it was a 40" pike)

Well it wasn’t a total bust. On the water for 8:00am and  Peddled out to 40fow and dropped two rods with 20,30 jets/spoons. Went to 52fow and no luck (3hrs). Took a break and swapped my rods over to worm harnesses. 60fow bam fish on. Fished that set up for an hour with no more action. Guy I was fishing with says I’m going to start heading in shore looks close but it’s 2hrs away. So jets and spoons back on for a faster troll back into shore. Using a 30 jet in 30fow and The fish finder is littered with fish on the bottom 10’. I look at my rod and say “it has to go off” bam fish on another walleye slightly bigger. So I pack that rod up cuz I’m only getting shallower. Still have a 20 jet out. 26fow rod goes off and it’s fighting good. Of course a sheephead.  From where we started heading in-to shore was 8km. Probably did 20km today mostly trolling spoons 2.5-3.2 mph.
my legs feel it and my ass is sore.
nice day out slightly overcast and next to no chop on the water.

Hunters who have a group of 4 or more should be given a tag after what is paid for a license . We had  a party of 6 and got 3 cow & 2 bull tags for one of our hunts and used one cow tag . Other hunts we usually got 2 or 3 tags ....hunting in different parts of Ontario . One year we bagged 3 bulls .
We took fishing rods and had some great fish dinners and knocked off a few grouse occasionally .
So very true !   It's a new world out there in the bush .....listening to the wolves , owls , in complete darkness in the tent  or watching the northern lights , etc etc etc .
I miss those days ....3 of my buds have passed on , 3 have  health issues .  But I have more than 100 paper 'reminder' photos of those great times  .

I was lucky enough to get a bull tag this year. We had a bull tag last year as well that I filled for our group with my first ever moose!

Just getting away, spending time in the bush is time well spent, knocking down an animal is a bonus.

Well for the first time in almost 50 years no one in my moose hunting party received a tag. It doesn't matter to me as I will be going anyway as it is only to our camp in the Haliburton Forest. If I was still going to Thunder Bay area I would definitely not be going. We will spend the time clearing trails, of which some are long overdue, bird hunting, bear hunting and preparing for the deer season the following 2 weeks. There are a lot worse ways to spend a late October week.

Here's a great way to cook up venison.....I'm not the best on an actual recipe in regards to quantity and such although I'm actually a formally trained chef with many years under my belt ...lol ...more like guidelines to cook anything from dinner for 2 to 200.....take your tenderloin or backstraps......butterfly it open like you would to stuff it.....stuff it with a mixture of a few fresh blueberries....diced apple...dried cranberries....some diced dried apricot....celery and onion....tie it up or toothpick it together....oven grill or broiler....cook it to a nice solid medium ( you don't have to cook the crap out of most game that some people think).....remove the roast from the pan .....take the pan all the drippings ..fallen out fruit ect.....deglaze the pan with a splash of red wine....when the wine boils off for a min ....add some water and your favorite brown gravy mix to the pan accordingly

It's a big lake and I have managed to find the more consistent spots around the island with the cottage. I get up every morning 5am as it is breaking light and go. My wife shakes her head but I tell her I can be in the boat and fishing in 3 minutes for this week and not when I am at home. My buddy said...if he's not fishing he's thinking about fishing lol.
My go to is trolling Rapala F11 or crankbaits  with splitshots in 9-14 ft water but there is a lot of deep water. You can troll one side of an island 80 yards out in 8-14 ft and the other side 15ft from shore it is 30ft or more. I need to start doing more jigging in the deeper water as there are usually fish marking. We can't use live bait there so we usually tip jig with a worm. It's fun on a big lake you don't know well to catch a few where you know you can and then go exploring.

Today was awesome for me wow! Woke up at 445am to go fishing got to my spot, fished a bit nothing so moved down a bit more using worms, around 530am had a massive hit and line started running knew it wasn't a bass! 5 minutes later got him in and was a nice 5lb rainbow trout yummy! Gonna be good eats on the bbq! Ended up meeting with a buddy after that to try another spot and ended up the morning with 5 nice size smallies! All done fishing by 9am! And got all the smallest on a spoon and the trout on a dew worm! The trout was caught in 5 fow with current mayhe 3 foot out and the bass were caught just wading up to my knees in shorts. We got some good meat for the freezer and some dinner tonight yummy!

I took several fly-in trips in the 80's, usually with Arnie from Hawk Air in Hawk's Junction or Cochrane Air Service. I never flew in an Otter, these two outfits used the Beaver. Taking off and landing on the water is an amazing experience. The fishing was always superb but like you said, you did have to learn the lake. Sometimes we took a split trip where they would bring us to one lake for Lake Trout and Pike for a few days then pick us up and fly us to another lake for walleye. Back then the trip was usually around $500 per person. You brought your own groceries and fishing equipment and they supplied the flying, cabin, and boats and motors. We never used a guide on the fishing trips but we did once on a fly-in moose hunt. To someone who has never done this type of trip, I highly recommend it.

Just got back from Anjigaming (AirDale) and we had a great time!!

We drove straight through the day on Friday and stayed with Jenn and Martin at their lodge at Hawk Junction and after an amazing breaky at the lodge we drive to the air base at Wawa for our 9AM departure.  Flight in was smooth and we were unpacked and on the water by noon.  We were the first group on this lake in 2 years (it was closed for most of the pandemic) so we were excited about getting out on the lake.
The boats were 14' Naden's with 8hp Merc 4 strokes and ran fine.  Fishing was very good once we got a good lay of the land and by the end of the week we landed close to 200 fish with the largest pike in the 42-44" range and the largest Walleye was in the 24" range.  We had a couple of fish fry's for lunch and only had rain blow through a couple of times in the week but the bugs were thick when the wind died down in the evening.  The cabin has a solar array and a sat router that allowed us to get WiFi so we could text and send pics of the trip.
The week went by quickly and I am already looking forward to next years trip!

I finally had a window of decent weather to take my daughter, her pup as well as my pup. This was my boys first time in the boat and he enjoyed it thoroughly. The target, big Channel Cats. Sadly the big girls didn't come out to play. We weren't fishing 5 minutes when we were into a double header, my daughter's was a Cat and mine a was Bowfin. The next 30 minutes was constant action but few fish over the gunnels. The end result for a few hours of fishing was, 1 Cat, 2 Bowfin, 1 Pumpkinseed and and a scruffy Northern.

I always looked forward to Joe's fishing articles in the newspaper and when he published his book "Fishing In Niagara" I was quick to get a copy. Imagine my surprise when I opened it to page 24 and there was my '79 Blazer and 24' Crestliner on the launch ramp in Port Dalhousie. I was totally unaware the picture had been taken

Speaking of cheap gas I was over in the U.S today. Going to start my weekly beer and gas runs again. The prices in Canada are a joke. I paid 3.93 a gallon which after conversion came out to 1.30ish a litre. The husky by me today was 1.83 a litre. 53 cents a litre cheaper!  Filled my 100L truck and 2 x 25L jerry cans. Huge savings. Plus 30 beer for 16.99 vs 50 to 55 a case here .
