Tony reacted to Port_D_Guy in Fish for Bass and Get This...
27"
Been a while. I thought it was a snag.
Got a few typical 1 lb'er smallies.
Still no Sheepshead. 🤔

Hit the Grand as the rain was dying off. Decided to let George land all the fish. Boy did she get a big surprise.

Got out for a bit last night. Managed one kitten just before I was about to head back. Good ol' Carolina rig and some leftover cut bait from GRO did the trick. This little knarly beast saved me from getting skunked! 🤣
By the way, does anyone know what's up with that big encampment on the 12 by the footbridge over the 406? Does the city do anything about this, or one of those turn a blind eye type of things? There's so much garbage everywhere!

I also got out today at Jordan for some cats. I got about 8 this trip but the fishing has been more challenging than in past years.

Tony reacted to honeyv in Guelph Lake
Spent a night at Guelph Lake Conservation Area. Got the kayak out in the evening. I was close to being skunked if not for the last second LOL. I found a nice shallow bay where one unlucky snot rocket bit my bait (lucky for me). It was a tough evening so I called it shortly after that little guy bit, then I went and got some grub on the fire! oh and I also got an OOS weird looking orange-mutant lookin' bass.
The real fun was the next morning after packing up. I hit some smaller streams in search of some Specks "on the way" home and they did NOT disappoint and I had a limit in no time at all!

Tony reacted to steellee in Trout opener
I was thinking it was last Saturday in April not 4th the way things landed this year. Around noon figured it out and grabbed my float rod and headed out into the pouring rain.Hit up a small Erie trib close by with a modest run of steelhead. Nice only seeing 2 others in the couple hours I fished before getting pretty much rained out. Never thought much of them but the Berkley 3"pink worms with a bead have been hot for me going back to last spring and were bait of choice today

five gallon pail with a piece of PVC or ABS pipe screwed on each side (tiltable). You're fishing near water....fill the pail with water for weight

Took about three hours to get. Where I like to fish in the harbour didn't have a lot current as usual, but they were surfacing around me. Good clarity up to 4 ft. Just right.

Tony reacted to smerchly in Anyone getting out this weekend?
No luck today , tossed a swim bait & husky jerk but no hits . Water was a little murky but not too bad , lots of runoff as the ditches were running full steam . I checked out CDP & the muddy water was flowing fast into the pond . The lake is still low but flowing over the berm which has been destroyed since the lake was very high .....not looking good for early carp fishing there. Rennie pond was also murky with ice covering most of the north end at the grandstands..
I saw my first robin and pair of turkey vultures today , sure sign of spring..

Tony reacted to smerchly in Price of Worms.......................
The lunatic was on the grass tonight ....a few minutes ago ! I haven't seen so many worms in months ! The short cut grass is loaded tonight . I picked about 3 dozen in 15 minutes ,,,nice fat juicy ones , long slim slimy ones !
All set for some action with the harnesses for eyes , trout or whatever , and drop shot for perch , etc etc etc.
I'll return my 3 dozen 'red leaf worms' to their composted home .
Now ....to check the weather out for the beginning of November !

Another season has come to an end at one of the best fishing spots that will probably gone soon. Enjoy! Had to keep the pike since the spoon was almost in his stomach...
We used cured skein in hot pink, hooked fish all day every time we went using 30 lbs fluorocarbon leaders, that was me with two kids on the green bridge daily.

Tony reacted to Jwl1 in Today with my daughter
By the way ..happy Thanksgiving everyone....here's something I'm thankful for.....after spending a great weekend with my daughter sharing all weekend between a friend's giving type dinner on Saturday at my house...a family dinner yesterday at my brother's house...my daughter and I thought it would be a great idea to step out and do some fishing on the way to dropping her back home....we waited until the weather cleared up a bit and spent a great afternoon at one of my old fishing haunts.....we drowned some worms and had a totally action packed afternoon...bites every time a line hit the water....she had a blast catching a bunch of Sunnie's and the odd perch in the mix.....no trophies.....but my trophy was watching her have a blast catching fish all afternoon right until we ran out of worms......and I always know it's a great day and makes me a proud father when my young adult daughter wants to share some time with her dad....lol

With a little ingenuity....and around 4 dollars from dollar tree....I built myself a minnow trap today!!!....I think I am going to test it out tomorrow morning for a bit...
-
Tony reacted to smerchly in Price of Worms.......................
I have a mnnow trap which has trapped many baitfish for me over the years . Between that and my nets I "should" be able to get all I need , very soon I hope.
Time to set up my large barrel , fill with tap water and let sit for a few days (chlorine) before catching minnows and/or small chubs.

Tony reacted to kevin in Price of Worms.......................
Ya they work pretty good under the right conditions. After a little rain or a good lawn soak, and the worms are up a bit higher, they work well. Dry ground not so much. But under the right conditions I've collected an entire flat of dew worms in under an hour.

I’m pretty sure that they have leeches too, if that’s what jellies your donut.

Tony reacted to smerchly in Huskie Jerks
No ,not the dogs .....but a while back I was all teary eyed from losing my fav. husky jerk that has rewarded me with many fish . The Dalhousie bottom claimed it and some of my harnesses over the years . I had a brain fart today ....maybe I have another one in my old tackle box that has been collecting dust ....
When I opened the 'vault' my eyes feasted on 2 brand new Jerks , still in the boxes & 2 different sizes !
I'm a happy camper as they will soon be getting wet after all the dry years in the basement tackle shop . This box isn't even close to 10% of the lures I have . Some are very old , like 7" Rebels, J-13's and suspended Raps etc....

Where I bought my last 24 pack of worms for $5 , both Trudy & Ford got zilch . ...got them from the Mohawks while gasing up at Quinte .
And the worms were big fat juicy ones & we cut them in half which still caught fish ! And if the worms didn't work , I could pick up some walleye fillets there ...
